Do you see the old metal rings embedded in many curbs around town? They are for tying down your horse. So we will be riding bikes and attaching our (toy) horses (and some other toys too!) Ride will be biking down side streets that have many horse rings. So we will have many stops in the road to attach toys and take photos. Ride will not have a park stop, or a store stop, and will move slowly. Ride starts at Hail Snail and will end at the Salmon Street Fountain by 7:45pm, in time for Thursday Night Ride. Join the Portland Pub Sing crew for our second annual Sea Shanty ride! Whether we're rolling down Klickitat Street or rolling down to old Maui, singing together is a joyful way to create community. Sea shanties are easy songs for anyone in group to pick up and learn. We will be meeting at Irving park, where our ride leaders will teach a few sea shanties. We will be making one stop on the way to our final destination at Tomorrow's Verse where we will join up with the regular monthly Portland Pub Sing.

Join this ride and settle the age-old question surrounding the ultimate music rivalry: Metallica or Megadeth? These two titans of thrash have had a career-long rivalry since the day Dave Mustaine was kicked out of Metallica and formed Megadeth. THEME: Metallica vs. Megadeth! Expect an alternating playlist spanning the careers of both bands. Repping your team by wearing Metallica or Megadeth gear is encouraged. ROUTE: Route will be about 13 miles with a store stop, taking a little bit over 2 hours in total. This no-drop ride will move at a social pace (8-12 mph). Ride will not be an exact loop, but will end within about 1 mile of the start location to a spot where we can blast Metallica, Megadeth and the music of other metal titans well into the night; metal karaoke will be available for those who dare! While the route won’t be posted beforehand, feel free to ask the ride leader about specifics at stops if you have questions. Please refrain from playing conflicting sounds/your own music, as this is a curated playlist. Depending on ride size, may be open to big synced sound systems for back of ride, but expect me to get nitpicky about getting it perfectly synced up! Since I don't see one posted (I might have just missed that connection myself) I am posting this ride this year. We meet at a different park in Portland every Saturday all year morning at about 9 to talk about home repair, travel plans, obscure board games, insects, etymology and sometimes bikes. Coffee Outside is often a meeting or starting point for adventures, day rides, group food cart rides or other outings. Bring a means to make coffee or some sort of coffee-adjacent beverage, or not. Instant chai? Perfect. A canned coffee beverage from the bodega? Legit. A special small batch blend of beans roasted in your neighborhood roastery that you measure by weight (portable scale, naturally) hand-grind in your titanium grinder before making a slow pour-over using hand-made paper filters and perfect temperature water? Sure, go for it. Baked goods are always appreciated but not at all required. Uniform? Nope. Fancy bike? Nope. Racing or ultra bikepacking chops? Nope. We enthusiastically welcome new faces and have no barrier to entry other than being your authentic self and leaving any bad/aggro attitudes at home. Meet in town or along the HCRH for a ride to camp at the Russellquist wedding in Cascade Lox with Sugarpine lunch stop. Pack your camping gear, load up your bike, and join us at one of many stops along our scenic route through the Columbia River Gorge as we celebrate the marriage of John Russell and Emily Steelquist at Thunder Island in Cascade Locks. Starting from inner N/NE Portland, we’ll leave town via Marine Drive on our way to lunch at Sugarpine Drive-in on the Sandy River in Troutdale, which is <2 miles from the Columbia Gorge Express bus stop, which stops in Troutdale at 1:35 pm en route to Multnomah Falls, Cascade Locks, and Hood River. After lunch, the ride will continue along the Historic Columbia River Highway and State Trail all of the way to Cascade Locks. After a brief stop at Portland Women’s Forum State Scenic Viewpoint, a segment of the HCRH to the Vista House is currently closed for construction due to a landslide and may require a steep, unpaved detour. Fortunately, this closure means that traffic is much lower on either side of the detour! The ride may regroup a few times at major stops so no one gets left behind, as well as to meet other riders who will join us at Multnomah Falls or Eagle Creek. Riders with larger/heavier bikes should be aware of the stairs located near Eagle Creek, which will be traversed in the downstairs direction, or bypassed via the Toothrock Tunnel on I-84, which is open to bikes: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ziJE7rizwcUEBZ6Z6 https://www.oregonhikers.org/field_guide/Eagle_Creek_Staircase If all goes according to plan, we will end at the Marine Park Campground in Cascade Locks a few hours before dark, where we’ll join our fellow campers for BYO Happy Hour and we welcome friends we couldn’t invite to camp with us on Saturday and/or Sunday night. While our love and camping space may be virtually unlimited, the Bureau of John Russell regrets that seating capacity may be limited to a financially constrained list—first in our hearts, last in line for a slice. Balancing the budget is optional, but appreciated. While “banned [still] means banned,” attendance is not limited by blood relation, state boundary, or pedaling capacity—only by willingness to celebrate the marriage of John & Emily in true Cascadian style. At this point it’s pretty much official that the wonderful Benno Boy has ridden his last ride. Last Saturday the 28th of June Benno Boy hit the Godzilla,King Kong and Gigantor of Potholes at SE 39th and Stark on the way to @biteonbelmont. After 22755 Miles and 8 wonderful years of Riding all over Portland Oregon, nearly 1000+ Group Bike Rides and probably around 300-400 Ride Leads during Pedalpalooza and Afterpalooza plus probably 2000 rides to Portlands Food Carts his frame gave up the ghost. I’m very sad to say Goodbye to my trusty steed as he had become a huge part of who I am. There will be a memorial ride to say goodbye and to welcome his successor on Wednesday August 6th (Mini Version) and Saturday August 23rd (Full Version) Thank you to all the incredible bike mechanics for keeping him running since he was purchased from The eBike Store May 4th 2017 you are heroes of the highest order. Nomad cycles is celebrating in honor of 10 years of service. We’re a small bike shop located on 58th and Sandy that’s been repairing bikes both electric and analog and converting regular bikes into electric bikes. Casual ride to art galleries for the First Friday Art Walk. First Friday Art Walk is a monthly tradition where art galleries stay open late, bring in artists, have free food, and have hands-on arts projects. http://firstfridaypdx.org/ Biking is the best way to get around to these wonderful galleries, as they're spread around inner SE/NE. We get to 5-8 galleries, depending on how long our group spends in each gallery. We don't know exact routes and galleries, because we decide in the moment. We'll stay out until ~9:30pm, then see if folks are up for a group dinner afterwards. Join for as many galleries as you like, and leave when you wish. If you have a sound system bring it! I love music on group bike rides. Ride details: 5-15 minutes of biking between galleries. Our ride is perfect for new cyclists and families with kids. We'll go at a slow pace so folks can socialize, and everyone can keep up. We'll use small neighborhood streets with minimal cars.

We meet at a different park in Portland every Saturday all year morning at about 9 to talk about home repair, travel plans, obscure board games, insects, etymology and sometimes bikes. Coffee Outside is often a meeting or starting point for adventures, day rides, group food cart rides or other outings. Bring a means to make coffee or some sort of coffee-adjacent beverage, or not. Instant chai? Perfect. A canned coffee beverage from the bodega? Legit. A special small batch blend of beans roasted in your neighborhood roastery that you measure by weight (portable scale, naturally) hand-grind in your titanium grinder before making a slow pour-over using hand-made paper filters and perfect temperature water? Sure, go for it. Baked goods are always appreciated but not at all required. Uniform? Nope. Fancy bike? Nope. Racing or ultra bikepacking chops? Nope. We enthusiastically welcome new faces and have no barrier to entry other than being your authentic self and leaving any bad/aggro attitudes at home. We will ride at an easy pace with fun music, and we always make an effort to not leave anyone behind. The print materials that we send folks home with on this ride all relate to the Global Movement to Gaza flotilla, which seeks to break the siege of Gaza and bring aid to starving Palestinians. Are you bummed that Pedalpalooza aka Bike Summer has ended? Well fear not because that first weekend in September will have a fun ride for you. Join us for the Galactic Super Nova Ride. We will cruise under the glow of the Corn Moon! We'll meet up for a chill, cosmic-themed group bike ride ending at Cully Park for some laid-back stargazing and UFOs. Come decked out in your best space-inspired gear or anything weird truly -- even corn costumes work -- think stars, moons, aliens, and glitter, anything that you consider out of this world and get ready to vibe out under the full moon and enjoy some star gazing. All bodies and all wheels welcome. This ride will NOT be a loop so please plan accordingly. There will be a store stop with safe accessible restrooms. Safety: This ride intends to be a safe space. SHIFT Code of Conduct is important and implemented on these rides. No harassment, violence, racism, bigotry, transphobia, threats, or other actions that go against the SHIFT Code of Conduct will be accepted. Respect others and ask consent before touching another person or their belongings. If you experience or witness an issue, tell the ride leader and if SHIFT banned you as a rider, you are banned on this ride too.
