Ride is a loop
End location: Ride is always a loop
Our instagram is nakedHeartspdx so you can see how we ride. Weekly themed rides. Different ride leaders each week, but you can expect the ride to be social paced (8ish mph), no-drop, safe and welcoming, store stop with safe clean bathroom access and the ride is always a loop. We practice consent and non-violence specially with car interactions, what one ride does affects how all rides get treated. The Mellow Mondays are a space for (new) ride leaders to try out ideas in a very supported environment. You’ll often see Mondays rides appearing again during the warmer riding season. We follow the shift code of conduct and expect everyone to be respectful of themselves and others around them. This is so we can actually relax and have fun and connect with each other in a softer space. This isn’t a sober ride but we ask for moderation to keep the atmosphere relaxed. We recommend Abraham Fixes bikes in N Williams and NomadCycles (e-bike specialist) for repairs/sales and parts. Our friends over at RideSafePDX host regular ride and we’ recommend those as a pleasant warm group to ride with.

*not a ride* Four people presenting about bike touring. Come vicariously enjoy tales and photos from travels. Bike Touring is a great way to see the world. You are in your own air space. You can see things, smell things, hear things, enjoy the sun, wind, and rain firsthand. It's also affordable, fun, and can make your body feel great. I've been bike touring since I was 18, and have met a lot of fellow Portlanders who have also gone to far flung parts of the world. Or local parts of the world. On their bicycles. So I'm organizing this slide show series to give us all an opportunity to learn from each other, and provide motivation and instruction for people who would like to begin touring the world by bicycle. So. I'm hosting a 3-part bike touring slide show series at Migration Brewpub. It's free. It's informal, you can come and go as you like. Food is Nicaraguan. By Chef Rene. Beer is good. https://migrationbrewing.com/pubs/williams-pub-patio/ Feb 4th Lineup 6:30. Ted Buehler. Bike touring in rural Ukraine, 2016 and 2019. I rode through the Carpathian Mountains, visited the cities of Lviv, Odesa and Kyiv. Rode trains from place to place. Enjoyed the chill pleasantness that was Ukrainian Culture pre-2022. Photos, maps, stories. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10158030581450985&set=pb.699765984.-2207520000&type=3 7:00 Maren Souders. Touring around the USA by Amtrak, with a Brompton and trailer. Maren took about 15 months in 2021 and 2022 to visit dozens of Intentional Communities and botanical gardens, from Portland to San Diego, to Florida, to Quebec, to British Columbia. Many adventures along the way, on the backroads and highways getting from Amtrak stations to outlying destinations. https://www.dreamintochange.com/the-route-takes-shape/ 7:30 Emily Wilson (and maybe Ben Foote) Vashon Island by bicycle, train and ferry. 2022. It's an easy starter bike tour -- Amtrak to Tacoma, ride to the ferry, ride the length of Vashon Island (Seattle's greenest suburb in many ways), then ferry to Seattle and Amtrak back to Portland. 8:00 Colleen Barclay. Olympic Peninsula by bicycle. 2024. Colleen is new to Portland, and bicycled the entire peninsula last year, self supported. But she is not new to the Pacific Northwest -- in 1978 she and a friend did a similar self-supported bike tour up Vancouver Island, then to Prince Rupert by ferry, and across the Canadian Rockies to the prairies.

Ride is a loop
Whether you knew Bob or not, please come to CELEBRATE LIFE as we honor a cyclist who recently passed on 12/4/24 after crashing on his way home from work on 11/21. We will ride from his work downtown to his favorite stop, the Tilikum Crossing bridge, and back making a loop. We at BikeLoud didn't know him, but he sounded like a really cool guy, and didn't want his death to go unnoticed in the cycling community. We learned a little about him to share… Bob Spingler was a beloved employee of Dan & Louis Oyster Bar restaurant for 10 years. He was said to have a vibrancy and a zest for life, shown in his wild clothes, body ink, and the jewelry he wore (he designed that Tork worn around his neck). It was shared how one of Bob’s sisters commented that he “went to Woodstock in 1969 and never came back”. He enjoyed good weed, and loved music by Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Band, and especially, King Crimson, with their album cover tattooed on his chest. A few years ago, he bought a class 2 Pedego e-bike. Before that, Bob rode a motorcycle cruiser for over 50 years with his friend Eric adding “without a crash”. He also shared how“[At age 75,] Besides arthritis, Bob had the body and energy of a 35-year-old. Cycling is what kept him young”. Eric also shared a special trait of Bob’s that we especially admire, “One thing especially fascinating was how he talked to absolutely everyone. Being at a restaurant or on the street with him, literally anyone walking by would get a genuine “How you doing?”. He had spent time in many different parts of the US before landing in Portland. The story of how he got hired at the Oyster Bar is inspiring! Bob will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind and even some of us who have just read about him. His friends and coworkers are having a Memorial on Thursday, February 6th, and we’ll arrive a bit later to honor this cyclist many of us didn’t get the opportunity to know with a group bicycle ride to his favorite stop. At 6 PM, we will hear a story or two from Bob's friends and coworkers before we head out on our bicycles as a group. With Bob's favorite music leading the way, we will follow the route he took home every workday, over the Tilikum Crossing bridge, stopping for a brief ceremony, then head back to the restaurant, making an easy-paced 3.7-mile loop. We hope those even who didn’t know Bob will join, maybe in honor of the memory of those other special people who passed. This ride is meant to be a physical community act of Celebrating Life! Let there be strength in numbers. (Photos by his friend and photographer, Wayne Mackeson)

Meet at 1PM. Roll out at 2PM
*ATTENTION! RIDE TIME CHANGE JAN 2025 & BEYOND* Join us for a Second Sunday Funday ride every month. Meet at the Peninsula Park Rose Garden Fountain or the Gazebo (weather-dependent) at 1PM. We roll out at 2PM. Each month is led by a different CORVIDAE member, and therefore will be unique. We try to focus our rides on greenways, group etiquette and silliness. In addition to bike safety and accessibility, we want to promote using bicycles as an alternative to fossil fueled travel within Portland. This is a no-drop ride, but please bring your repair kit with a spare tube so we can keep the ride rolling. Please bring your own provisions; we’ll be stopping near stores, but not at them. Each member has an eye out for the crowd, will cork, sweep and be a general pillar of support. Ride pace is casual at around 10 miles with a few park stops. We aim to impress that this is a safe environment for all; no aggressive, sexist, racist, or any other kind of BS will be tolerated. Please review our Corvidae Code of Conduct on our FB main page or IG highlights.
