SUMMARY:Learn BEGINNER bicycle skills. Practice moving/turning/shifting
 in a safe environment.
CONTACT:Viv
DESCRIPTION:This is not a social ride. This is a free practice
environment. Participants will ride around a car-free block\, practicing
basic bike skills. \n\nWe’ll practice bicycling forward\, turning\,
shifting\, signaling your intention to turn\, checking over your shoulder
to ensure it’s safe to turn\, and moving confidently through
intersections. We’ll practice on a wide\, safe street that is closed to
cars. \n\nThis is for people new to cycling. I’ll get you started\, so
you build confidence. I'll also answer your questions\, and connect you
with future resources.\n\nI'll have a table on Bond Ave\, wearing a
"BikeLoud" shirt. Ideally\, folks will come ready to start at 1pm\, and
as a group\, we'll progressively go through practice drills until 3pm. If
you can't arrive by 1pm\, come any time during the two hours I’ll be
there\, and stay for as long as you'd like to learn. The street is large
enough that numerous participants can work on their own skills at their
own pace. I’ll assess each person to work on the skills they specifically
need\, and answer any questions about biking. Even if you're not
interested in riding\, come if you have beginner questions about how to
bike around town. \n\nI’m a certified bicycling traffic instructor\, who
has been teaching for a decade. These are "parking lot drills" from the
“Smart Cycling” curriculum taught around the country. These drills have
taught and empowered thousands of people new to cycling :)\n\nThis is for
ages 16+. I can also teach ages 6-15 if parents stay and work with their
kids.\n\nRequirements: Bring a helmet. Know how to balance on a bike and
move forward a bit\, even if you're unsteady. Bring your own bicycle\,
or there's a Biketown station that rents bikes by the minute (via the Lyft
  app) on this block.\n1-3pm\nhttps://shift2bikes.org/calendar/event-15830
