SUMMARY:Ride for Safer Streets -- Let PBOT and Other Electeds Know They
 Must Act
CONTACT:Lois with the Leopard Cat Ears
DESCRIPTION:Bike to tell PBOT we demand safer streets\nDid you know that
killers are loose on our streets? Thirteen lives were lost to motor
vehicles in Portland in July 2023\, the deadliest month on record.
Although none of those killed in July were bicycling\, the rise of
reckless/distracted/aggressive driving threatens all of us.\n\nAfter
pressure from the community\, PBOT announced it will host a press
conference on Monday\, August 7\, at 11 am at Fourth Avenue Plaza\,
Portland City Hall. PLEASE ATTEND IF YOU CAN. We need to turn out so
they see the public very much cares about curbing killer driving.\n\nI
will be leading a ride from the Belmont Library on southeast Cesar E.
Chavez to the press conference. Please meet on the sidewalk on SE Taylor
at 10 am. We will ride at 10:15 sharp\, so that we can move at a
comfortable pace to get to the press conference. If you cannot make the
ride but can show up at Fourth Avenue Plaza by 11\, we will see you there.
\n\nKeep your helmet on during the press conference\, so that our elected
officials know that bicyclists are demanding safer streets.\n\nYou can
read more about the press conference on BikePortland

actions-to-stop-grim-traffic-toll-377768 (Thanks to Jonathan Maus for
ever vigilant reporting on this!)\n\nRide length: 45 minutes to the press
conference\, and who knows how long until the electeds say/do something
 useful.\nMeet at 10\, ride at 10:15 sharp\nEnds at Fourth Avenue Plaza\,
 City Hall\nhttps://shift2bikes.org/calendar/event-17655
LOCATION:Belmont Library to Portland City Hall\nSE Taylor and Cesar E
Chavez\nPlease meet on the sidewalk south of the Library on SE Taylor
Street. We will meet at 10 and leave at 10:15. I'll be on my leopard
bicycle with cat ears on my helmet so you know not that hard to pick out
 of the crowd.
