SUMMARY:5 Bridge Tour
CONTACT:Patagonia Portland
DESCRIPTION:Patagonia Tour De Bridges\n\nIn Portland Oregon there are a
total of 37 vehicle and pedestrian bridges. The Patagonia Tour De Bridges
is a unique opportunity to explore different areas of Portland and avenues
for biking\, while getting to either cross or see some of the bridges.
Building off the rides hosted last year by Nathan Khalsa\, who mapped out
the Sellwood Bridge Tour (formerly River Romp)\, the rides this year seek
to offer more opportunities for seeing the city and for different levels
of biking and endurance. We are excited to share these rides with you and
the contributions from the friends who helped create these.\n\nWhat to
Expect:\n\nStarting off at the store we will depart and head onto
Hawthorne Bridge (1) and go over the bridge.\n\nThe Hawthorne Bridge is a
truss bridge with a vertical lift and is one the oldest vertical-lift
bridges in operation in the US. It opened in 1910. The total length of the
bridge is 1\,382 feet and has 880\,000-pound counterweights that are
suspended from the two 165 foot tall towers.\n\nComing down from the
bridge we will take a left and head towards the Tilikum Crossing bridge
 (2) and go over and turn right onto Bond Ave.\n\nThe Tilikum Crossing
Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge and opened in 2015. The bridge is 1\,720
feet long and offers crossing for pedestrians\, cyclists\, and public
transit.\n\nWe will navigate up along the waterfront towards the Steel
Bridge (3) and cross east on the lower deck.\n\nThe Steel Bridge is a
through truss double-deck vertical-lift bridge and opened in 1912. It is
the only double-deck bridge with independent lifts in the world. The
 upper-deck offers access for cars\, public transit\, pedestrians\, and
cyclists. The lower-deck offers access for railcars\, pedestrians\, and
cyclists.\n\nWe will navigate through some city roads and head towards the
Blumenauer Bridge (4).\n\nThe Blumenauer Bridge\, previously known as the
Congressman Earl Blumenauer Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge and Sullivan’s
Crossing\, connects Lloyd District and Kerns neighborhoods and spans over
Interstate 84. The bridge opened in 2022. It is a tied-arch design and is
475 feet long and is only accessible to pedestrians and cyclists.\n\nWe
will head north on 7th Ave and turn left onto Broadway heading over the
Broadway Bridge (5) and back to the store.\n\n The Broadway Bridge is a
truss rall-type bascule bridge that is 1\,742 feet long and opened in
1913. It is the longest bascule design type bridge in type in the world.
In 2012 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The
bridge is accessible to pedestrians\, cyclists\, cars\, and public
transit.\n\n\nKey takeaways:\n•Meet at the store to sign waivers at 5:30PM
