SUMMARY:Southerly Ladies Bike Camping weekend
CONTACT:Maria the Bicycle Kitty
DESCRIPTION:WEEKEND TRIP\nLadies\, you are invited to join us for a
weekend of bike camping! This trip is meant to be beginner-friendly\, and
also fun for experienced riders/campers. If you're feeling intimidated
at all\, please let me know what your concerns are so I may reassure you.
This trip welcomes ladies* (*trans ladies this means you too!)\, but no
e-bikes please. If you are a dude or ride an e-bike\, I invite you to
continue scrolling to other events and not waste time getting mad or
sending me hate mail. All of my other rides welcome dudes and e-bikes\,
just not this one.\n\nOur destination is the lovely Battleground Lake
Park\, near Battleground\, Washington. There's a lake to swim in or hike
around or you can just hang around our campsite and relax. There are
several picnic tables and lots of trees at our site\, although I cannot
guarantee you'll find a spot to easily hang a hammock. There are showers
and bathrooms and potable water at the park. If you'd like\, bring a game
or activity for the group to enjoy together. \n\nSaturday\, we'll meet at
Rose City Golf Club on NE 72nd Avenue\, just north of Tillamook Street.
When you arrive\, ride into the parking lot\, take the first right onto
the sidewalk and head to the picnic tables. There's a ladies restroom
just past the picnic tables. I'll be in touch by email with our start
time (RSVPs are required).\n\nAbout 8 miles in\, we'll stop at Cafe Yumm
for lunch. We'll be able to see our bikes from inside\, so you don't need
a lock. I'll be bringing a cheap cable lock just in case\, and leaving
my heavy u-lock at home. At mile 23\, we'll take a rest stop at Kiwanis
Park\, which has restrooms and water. We will not be stopping at any
stores\, so please be sure to bring what you need to eat for the entire
weekend (there is a "burger shack" at the park). \n\nI've curated a
pretty sweet low-traffic\, 30 mile paved route\, which includes a couple
of short off road sections that can be walked if you don't care to ride
those. There are many turns\, so please ride behind or beside me\, this
also lets me set our pace (about 10-12-14mph). We'll be stopping often for
short regroups to keep the group together.\nRoute to Battleground:
 https://ridewithgps.com/routes/51813545\n\nWhen we arrive at camp\, we'll
head directly to the hard-to-find Hiker / Biker campsites. Pretty please
let me lead us to our site. The entry is uphill and if you are challenged
going slow uphill\, hang at the bottom for a bit\, then head up. Once we
get settled in\, I'll head over to the check-in booth to pay. The entire
site area costs just $24. I'll collect cash at lunch time (including
some money for firewood assuming there's no burn ban by then).\n\nSunday
we'll stay at the park until noon. Check out is 11am\, so we'll pack up
and leave our site to head over to the little on site "burger shack"\,
which I cannot guarantee will be open. If it is\, it's burgers and fries
and rootbeer floats and the like. If it's closed\, we'll have lunch at
Burgerville in Battleground instead.\n\nSunday's route is the reverse of
Saturday's\, and we'll have regroup stops along the way and a rest stop at
Kiwanis Park again\, then say our goodbyes back where we started at Golf
City Golf Club. \nRoute to Portland:
 https://ridewithgps.com/routes/50530942\n\nFor food\, you'll need to shop
in advance of the trip and carry food for both days: bike snacks\,
Saturday's dinner and Sunday's breakfast and coffee. If you don't like
Cafe Yumm or the burger places\, you'll want to pack meals to replace
those also. When in doubt\, use calorie counts to guide you.\n\nFor your
overnight gear\, you'll need a tent and sleeping pad and sleeping bag. If
  you want a hot dinner / breakfast / coffee\, you'll also need a portable
stove to get water hot. A headlamp will be useful to find your way to the
bathroom in the night. Since we're near a lake\, bug spray will be a
must. We'll also be near each other\, so earplugs to sleep with may be
helpful. Don't forget your swimsuit and towel!\n\nHere's a link to my
suggested gear list\, which includes info on where to rent gear:

 Jf3c5SvBPiGKaP2MU2vQuVjJBw45PcDv37_TBKCTA/edit?usp=sharing\n\nFinally
(thanks for reading this book!): this is an "all or nothing car-free"
trip. That means no late joiners or early departers - block out your
entire weekend for fun! This also means no cars (ie please don't invite a
friend to drive to meet us along the route or at camp). We will be self
supported rad lady cyclists spending the entire weekend having fun without
anyone feeling rushed. \n\nRSVP is required for this trip\, as our
headcount limit is 15 riders. You can RSVP by emailing me at
bicyclekitty@gmail.com.\nEmail me to learn our meet
