The Steel Bridge is the best bridge in a city of great bridges. We will celebrate her 107-year reign with a ride and presentation from Portland's "Bridge Lady," Sharon Wood Wortman. Come ride bikes and learn more about the ONLY double-deck bridge in the world with independent lifts. DETAILS: Ride is flat, less than 10 miles, and more or less a loop. BIOGRAPHIES: Sharon Wood Wortman, known as Portland's "Bridge Lady," has been writing about the bridges across the Willamette and Columbia rivers since 1984, and leading tours across them since 1991. She is the author of the first edition of The Portland Bridge Book, and, with Ed Wortman, co-author of the second and third editions. Her latest book is The Big & Awesome Bridges of Portland & Vancouver, also written with Ed and published in 2014 in cooperation with Portland Public Schools and PDX Bridge Festival, Inc. Ed has earned degrees from Harvard College, Harvard School of Design, and the University of California, Berkeley. Now retired from Multnomah County's Bridge Section, Ed helped with the construction of the 2008 Sauvie Island Bridge and the 2016 Sellwood Bridge. Storytellers at heart, Sharon and Ed continue to perform "BridgeStories—A Storytelling Slide Show" for a wide range of audiences and even occasionally lead bridge tours.
