IMPORTANT: You are not on the trip until you register at https://forms.gle/dPYnrU8TtYdbt9Hu5. Join us for a two-night, family-oriented (kids not required) bikepacking trip to Oxbow Regional Park, a 1,000-acre natural area near Troutdale along the Sandy River. We’ll begin at Woodstock Park in SE Portland, with scheduled stops for resting, playing, snacking, lunch, and other activities, and arriving in late afternoon to set up at our group campsite. We’ll have the whole next day to enjoy the park, nature play areas, hiking trails, old-growth forest, and river, including some optional planned activities. We’ll learn a bit about how Bike Loud PDX supports active transportation and creates safer streets. We’ll break camp and depart in the morning for the group ride back, but you can break off as needed to return to a different location or at a different pace. The ride: About 24 miles each way at a family pace. Lots of mutual support, but no sag wagon. E-bikes welcome. Cost: $20/household, no one turned away for lack of funds Elevation gain: About 700’, very gradual on the way there and very steep on the way back. We’ll work together to get everyone up that hill (with options to offload gear and join a towline) and have a scheduled stop after the top. Destination notes: Mobile coverage highly spotty to non-existent. Showers available. Pets not permitted. E-bikers: There is one electrical outlet behind the visitor’s center (about 2 miles from the campground). Those needing to recharge may want to arrange a group solution, like having a vehicle with an inverter at the site. Once registered, you can join the trip participants' FB group, for Q&A, sharing ideas and resources, and organizing some rides before the trip. Message Skip at skip@rootaction.org with any questions!
