MOVED TO AUG 20TH
End location: it is a mystery
MAJOR DISCLAIMER: This event is in no way affiliated with the N.O.I.S.E. Ride. That ride is about riding bikes and doing sick stunts (I think). Totally cool, but I don't really know anything about it and this isn't that. This is a parade-pace ride led by a Modular Synthesizer Bicycle. Noise is a genre of music (or not music) that has a lot of historical precursors but to my mind is basically punk taken to a certain logical extreme. In essence: no rules, not pretty, usually loud. It seemed to have a moment in the sun in the early/mid 00s with the success of acts like Boredoms, Lightning Bolt, Black Dice, and Wolf Eyes. Most musicians revile it, but most people aren't musicians and I'm not either. I've fiddled about with making noise in fits and starts for about 20 years at this point. When I first arrived in Portland in 2012, I basically owned my clothing, a computer, and a stack of cassette tapes for making and recoding weird ambient space-themed computer music. Reactions ranged from disinterested to discouraging. Around 2015 or so, I had a vision for NOISE BIKE, essentially a modular synthesizer mounted to and "played" by the motion of a bicycle. Modular synthesizers can take a lot of forms, and mine is actively evolving, but basically it is a noise maker in a box without any type of keyboard. It can be played by riding the bike and twiddling knobs. It has been a slow, boring journey, but as I write this, NOISE BIKE is alive and 2022 is ~*~*~NOISE BIKE SUMMER~*~*~ I'm planning to take it to basically any loud or electronic music themed ride all summer and...we'll see how that goes. This is the ride I will actually lead, and depending on time and turn out, I might be able to answer questions about it and *MAYBE* even open it up and show you the hand-crafted guts. If you have a similar contraption, feel free to bring it along. Ride will meet at 5pm, but we won't roll out till 6, so maybe we can have a crap-ass noise bash in the park before we roll. I have a big battery that I'm *pretty confident* could power several synths/speakers at once for hours. If not, we'll cancel everything. I once saw a noise bro make about 30 seconds of trash, then spill beer all over his effects pedals and cancel the show. It was probably about as good as if it had gone according to plan. When success sounds like shit, there's no such thing as failure! Speaker bikes are welcome, but please, only play artists who self-identify as noise. I'm scheduling this way out. Ride will rescheduled if it rains. Thanks!
