Ride is a loop
End location: Colonel Summers Park
Hello! Deadly collisions have spiked this year in our community - 44 traffic deaths in PDX as of 8/7/2023 - while more than 40,000 people are killed annually in traffic violence in the US since 2020. As local bike commuters, we feel strongly there is a real need for productive dialogue in parallel with demands to our local government for safer streets. Our main goal is to make our presence known, and provide our city transportation officials with explicit and effective ideas to keep all road users safe. Do you see more room for common ground between pedestrians, cyclist, vehicles, and other more vulnerable road users? How would you like to see our roads change/improve? Where do you want to see that change? No matter how you commute, join this ride! What to expect: We will ride from Colonel Summers to City Hall for testimony from survivors of traffic violence, followed by a candle lit moment of silence for fallen riders no longer with us. Live music will end our City Hall stop where we will hand out pre-stamped postcards for y'all to write down actions you want Transportation Commissioner Mingus Mapps to read. We'll return to Colonel Summers Park after. Please Join at Colonel Summers Park at 3:00pm. Wheels Down at 4:00pm. Respect other peoples space and property. No fighting, no drama. If it’s not a yes, it’s definitely a no.
