Free de-escalation training for corkers* via Zoom taught by Tom Hastings. Tom is an Associate Professor of Conflict Resolution at Portland State University and Coördinator of the BA/BS degree and certificate programs. He is Director of PeaceVoice, a co-founder of the Portland Peace Team, author of several books focusing on nonviolence and more than 600 other publications, board member of the International Peace Research Association Foundation, on the Academic Advisory Council of the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict, founding faculty with the James Lawson Institute, a former Catholic Worker, and a two-time Plowshares resister. Tom was first trained as a peacekeeper in Minneapolis by a veteran of the Civil Rights movement and started as one in 1983 as they worked to confront Honeywell over their cluster munitions and nuclear missile guidance components. After he moved to Portland in 2000 he worked with Michael Carrigan from Eugene training in approximately 90 peacekeepers in 2002-2003 as the peacekeepers rose up against invading Iraq. He’s done many trainings, including some at Sisters of the Road Cafe, PSU, and the network of peace teams across the US and Canada (Shanti Sena Network) was founded in his living room in 2011 and the Portland Peace Team was officially founded at his kitchen table in 2012. The agenda for the training will be to work through the CLARA method. Please review this method before logging into the class. Here's one site that talks about the method: https://www.boundlessloveproject.org/news/2020/9/24/the-clara-method-of-de-escalation The recording will be available for those who cannot make the Zoom call this week. No need to register, just show up. This event is an online training, not a ride...
