DROP RIDE. There was a bit of confusion last time, some people thought the entire description was a joke and it would be a "normal pedalpalooza ride" and many others genuinely thought I was just going to take off full blast and drop everyone, which is also incorrect. I like to ride bikes fast, and I also like to ride bikes with my friends, this ride is the fastest ride on the pedalpalooza calendar that I know of, rolling at 18 mph on the flats a speed at which others who ride quickly on a regular basis can not get dropped, but we will be going hard up the hills, and I will wait at the top of hills a bit, but people will also be dropped. Last ride started with 45 or so people and ended with 20-25... Are you looking for a safe ride during which you won’t get dropped?!? Neither am I! No drop rides are great, this is not one of those. Am I leading the ride? That implies I won’t be trying to ditch all of you! Route is ~20 miles and 1800’ of climbing because there’s no better place to drop people than in the hills! To be honest, you can actually drop people really effectively by running red lights and stop signs too, but I’m pretty sure we’re not supposed to talk about that in ride descriptions? Anyone that shows up with their buddy to make a little team to try to breakaway is doing it wrong and they will be excommunicated from the ride, every other person on the ride is your enemy, bonus points if you believe you are also your enemy! There will be no alliances, only drilling, you drop people with your legs, not your brain. Typically you're not supposed to pass the ride leader on rides, but if people aren’t passing me on this ride I’m going to be big mad! This ride will not be a success unless I get dropped! This ride is all about the dropping! Lastly, this ride is not a joke, and it is a joke, but it will also actually happen, and people will get dropped, I will be on my road bike, but won’t go as far as wearing spandex (EDIT: I have received specific instruction from Rudy to get after it, so I need to wear my Jersey that is specifically reserved for such occasions, so I have to wear spandex with it), but we will regroup at the top of hills, unless we don't. We will actually have a couple stops to regroup There may be a plaid pantry stop if everyone wants to have a mountain dew shot gunning contest, but only if every person is in the contest. OHHHH, I just realized that I could drop so many people with a fake store stop!!!! Pull in, wait like 20 seconds then just full blast sprint through a red light, GONE! Up! The! road! But now that I've tipped my hand I can see pulling in for the store stop and me immediately getting boxed in/corked so I can't pull this off? I just had a pretty uncomfortable thought, is it not actually all about the dropping? Maybe the dropping is just an excuse to go so hard that your brain kicks down that primo cocktail of endorphins that puts the rosiest of tints on the world around us? Why do we need an excuse to do that? I could ramble on about the fact that we don’t actually need an excuse to do that but that would probably get a little deeper than is warranted in a Pedal Palooza ride description, so for now, we are going to acknowledge that we do need an excuse to do this, and this ride is that excuse! The route will be from Ladds, over Tabor, over Rocky Butte, back over Rocky Butte, then back over tabor back to Ladds, so people could shorten it by not dropping down the north side of Rocky Butte and coming back up. Lastly, it is undignified to use one's lack of a freewheel or gears as an excuse for getting dropped.
