Layer up your winter wear and come join other cyclists at the car-free Rainbow Road gathering area for this SPECIAL PRE-RIDE EVENT, followed by a free group ride led to the historic Peacock Lane’s Pedestrian-only night. On the way to Peacock Lane the group ride will go by decorated houses on the quiet streets in the neighborhoods north of the Lane. Decorated bikes and humans are encouraged, but not required! Grab a beverage and tasty pastry from nearby CREMA COFFEE & BAKERY or maybe a cocktail from GORGE’S BREWERY, then step outside to the table area for mingling with other cyclists and an opportunity for affordable holiday gift shopping from a few(*) of our local cycling-focused artisans: @ Flat Tire Creations designed colorful salvage art mobiles and ornaments that even a non-cyclist can appreciate! Sparkling Candy Canes are made from bent spokes weaved with European glass beads and hand-cut inner tube strands. The Reflector Santa even has a hat! Lady Max used chain parts to make the HO-HO-HO face and an inner tube strap for hanging on a tree or wrapping around your handlebar! @ Pink Tag Bags crafts vibrant, functional bike bags to bring joy to cyclists and support communities. All sales from this event will be donated to Call To Safety, offering aid, advocacy, and a 24/7 helpline for ANYONE affected by domestic and sexual violence in the Portland area. @ ChronicCarry has creative vape & lighter holders and also designed an easy-reach beverage grab called ”Ultimate Can Holder” with an easy slide cap to keep debris out. Made from durable PVC and uses adjustable compression to stabilize any 16-32 ounce can, and conveniently fits on most frames, forks, or handlebars. At 5:00, “Know Your Greenways” Tom Howe will be leading the group ride to Peacock Lane where we will WALK OUR BIKES through the lane as we view the lights. This is a FREE RIDE, sponsored by BIKE LOUD PDX, a local grassroots bicycling safety advocacy group. The ride officially ends at Peacock Lane, however, you are welcome to ride back to Rainbow Road with Tom. Gather at the SOUTH END of the lane by the Walgreens store. For those who want to stay in the area, there is “The Bite” food cart pod just two blocks east on Belmont. And check out Movie Madness Video down the street from The Bite. This is not just a video store, but also a museum with many original movie props and costumes. (*Note to OTHER ARTISANS, please feel free to join us! There’s no charge and plenty extra tables to display your creations!)
