December is here, the days are short and the rain is wet. Let Cycle Cats be your beacon! Let’s generate some camaraderie and bike love to chase away that winter gloom. This month’s route takes us to Lake Oswego and Tualatin. Starts and ends at Vera Katz statue on the Eastbank Esplanade. Total distance is just under 40 miles and total elevation is about 2300 ft. Biggest single climb is Riverview Cemetery but the whole route is pretty unflat. Typical Cycle Cat warnings and caveats: Funny business abounds -- there will be curb-hopping, cut-throughs, gravel, singletrack, potholes, lions, tigers and bears. According to RideWithGPS, 17% of the route is unpaved. Ride leader will be on 32c but don’t be a hero, 35c or larger will make much more sense. Pace will be brisk but not a race. We’ll regroup at the top of hills and after trickier sections of funny business. There will be a mid-point stop at New Seasons for lunch. Please bring P.M.A., spare tubes and/or patch kits. We always encourage a helmet as this is a faster paced and more adventurous group ride with a no-drop mentality.
