Do you have a bike? Do you know a toddler? Do you want to bike with that toddler?! Of course you do! Join us for a Biking with Toddlers Clinic to learn the basic skills needed to ride with a little passenger, and to practice those skills in a safe, supportive, and car-free environment. Bring your own bike, toddler, and passenger carry system, or practice with one of ours! The bike systems that will be available to practice with include: 1) road bike with rear rack mount child seat, 2) cargo e-bike with rear rack mount child seat, 3) road bike with front mount child seat, and 4) tow behind trailer. Please bring your own safety equipment. Oregon law requires everyone under the age of 16 to wear a helmet while riding a bike. This clinic is for everyone interested in biking with littles. Have you always wanted to bike with your little one and don’t know where to start? Have you been debating which passenger system is right for you? Are you intimidated by the thought of biking on the mean streets of Portland? Are you an avid toddler-toting cyclists looking to build community with other toddler-toters? This clinic is for you! The Biking with Toddlers Clinic will cover: 1. Making sure the passenger carry system is secure on the bike. 2. Practicing loading and unloading the passenger from the carry system. 3. Making sure the passenger is secure in the harness. 4. Making sure the helmet is secure on the passenger. 5. Traffic safety information and rules for biking on roads. 6. Practicing biking with passengers in a car free zone. 7. Optional slow roll ride through the neighborhood for those comfortable riding on shared bike route streets. If you know a toddler*, you know that the best made plans don’t always go… as…. planned…. This clinic will be held at Rose City Park Elementary School, so if you or your toddler need to take a break and visit the playground, you are welcome to do so at any time. Restroom access is unknown at this time. *Toddler participation may vary depending on the status of nap and snack time.
