Ride is a loop
This ride visits two big improvements to Portland's extensive network of neighborhood greenways. The greenway network is more than 100 miles of low-traffic and low-speed streets where priority is given to people walking, bicycling, and rolling. Greenways are indicated by "Sharrow" street markings and wayfinding signs, and have protected crossings at busy streets, making them easy to follow. A goal of Portland's greenway network is to have both a north-south and an east-west greenway about every 10 blocks. The first new improvement we visit on this ride is the extension to the Davis-Everett Greenway that connects it to the 70s Greenway. The latter is a long north-south greenway that is very near complete. We will ride along the 70s for two miles to link up with the Woodward-Clinton Greenway. This will take us to the next new greenway improvement - the dedicated path along SE 64th leading into Mt. Tabor Park. This path forms the north end of the 60s Greenway, which will be completed later this year providing a connection extending all the way from the Springwater Corridor to Mt. Tabor. The 64th Avenue Path also connects to the Lincoln-Harrison Greenway, and we will use that to follow the loop route of this ride back to the Rainbow Road Plaza where we started. Along the way more connections on the greenway network will be pointed out. Total distance for the loop is 9 miles. "Know Your Greenways" bike rides are BikeLoud PDX affiliated events. From social rides to policy rides, BikeLoud PDX hosts many rides throughout the year to encourage people to meet each other, bike more, learn, and have fun. Our volunteer committees follow policy and address best practices in infrastructure to help Portland meet its 25% goal. Hope to see you on the ride!
