End location End location: Like there's buses that go back to Portland but you're most likely going to need to sleep there overnight. So if you're not don't think you can make it back I suggest you get a ride and have a meet you there.

Join us at 9:30AM for this exhilarating ride starting at Ventura Park (460 SE 113th Avenue, Portland, OR 97216). Get ready for a physics-defying, adrenaline-pumping 40-mile journey that'll test your limits and reward you with breathtaking views! Route Breakdown: Ventura Park to Dabney: Distance: ~20 miles Elevation: -100 ft net Physics: You'll convert potential energy to kinetic, hitting speeds up to 40 mph (17.9 m/s)! Kinetic Energy: 12,800 J for an 80 kg rider+bike at top speed Dabney to Corbett: Distance: ~8 miles Elevation Gain: +1000 ft Challenge: Work against gravity, building massive potential energy Corbett to Vista House: Distance: ~7 miles Terrain: Rolling hills Physics: Constant energy conversion between potential and kinetic Vista House to Multnomah Falls: Distance: ~5 miles Mostly downhill, speeds of 20-30 mph Air resistance becomes your main nemesis here! Medical and Physiological Considerations: Temperatures could hit the 90s (32°C+) Your core body temp might rise to 39-40°C Sweat rates can exceed 2 L/hour Cardiovascular system will be working overtime Hydration and Nutrition: Aim for 1-1.5 L of fluid per hour Target 60-90g of carbs per hour Replenish 500-2000 mg of sodium per hour Pack energy gels, sports drinks, and easily digestible snacks Safety First: Helmets are mandatory - protect that brilliant brain! Bright clothing and bike lights - be seen, be safe! Watch for signs of heat exhaustion: nausea, dizziness, rapid heartbeat Know your limits and the locations of bail-out points Environmental Impact: You'll be saving about 35 lbs of CO2 compared to driving. Mother Nature thanks you! Rebel Rouser's Rally Cry: Listen up, you magnificent speed demons! This ain't your average bike ride - it's a test of will, skill, and thrill. We're about to defy gravity, challenge thermodynamics, and make Sir Isaac Newton proud. Remember, when you're flying down Stark Street at 40 mph, you're not just a cyclist - you're a human rocket with 12,800 joules of kinetic energy! When you're climbing to Corbett, you're not just pedaling - you're sculpting your quads into works of art! We ride as one, we sweat as one, and we conquer this route as one. When the heat tries to break you, remember: you're not just fighting the hills, you're fighting the second law of thermodynamics - and winning! So fill those bottles, load up on carbs, and get ready to leave it all on the road. Today, we're not just cyclists - we're physics-defying, heat-battling, road-conquering legends in the making! See you at the starting line, and may the force (both mechanical and motivational) be with you! Note: All speeds and times are estimates. Always prioritize safety over speed, listen to your body, and enjoy the ride! Solar Analysis Given the ride's duration from 9:30 AM to approximately 2:00 PM, here's an analysis of sun exposure: Start (9:30 AM): Sun azimuth ~100°, elevation ~30°. Expect some direct morning sun. Ventura Park to Dabney: Mostly shaded due to urban environment and tree cover. Dabney to Corbett (11:00 AM - 12:15 PM): Sun azimuth 135-150°, elevation 60-70°. Increased exposure during climb, especially on south-facing slopes. Corbett to Vista House: Rolling terrain provides alternating sun and shade. Vista House to Multnomah Falls (1:30 PM - 2:00 PM): Sun azimuth ~200°, elevation ~65°. Mostly shaded due to Columbia Gorge topography and forest cover. Overall, the route benefits from significant shade, particularly in the Columbia Gorge. However, riders should be prepared for intense sun exposure during the Dabney to Corbett climb.
