Ride Westside
Sat, Aug 17, 2024, 3:00 PM
Meet at 3:00 p.m., roll at 3:30 p.m.
End location: At the Beaverton Night Market, at the Beaverton Central MAX Station
The ride will be approximately 12 miles with around 550 feet of elevation gain. We’ll be riding on pavement, gravel, bridges, and some dirt trails. You may need to walk and/or carry your bike during portions of the ride. This is a no-drop ride and we will regroup frequently to keep the group together. We will be heading up into the Hayhurst/Maplewood neighborhood between Garden Home and Multnomah Village to look at a future segment of the Red Electric Trail. The Red Electrics were a line of interurban passenger trains that connected cities and towns across the Willamette Valley in the early 20th century. One portion of this trail, a pedestrian and cycle bridge near Hillsdale, has already been installed. If the entire trail is completed, the Red Electric Trail would be a connector from Barbur Blvd to Oleson Rd for pedestrians and cyclists, following the old Red Electric right of way. The ride will meet up at the Beaverton Library at 3pm and will ride out at 3:30. We will be taking the Fanno Creek trail, sharrowed streets through the Maplewood neighborhood, exploring existing and future trail connectors, and braving a handful of high-traffic streets (Hall, Oleson) along the way. At the halfway point of the ride, we will have a park stop at Pendleton Park (next to Hayhurst School) to hang out, relax, and do some exploring! From there, we will ride out of Hayhurst and make our way back to Beaverton Central. The ride will culminate at the Beaverton Night Market at the Round, arriving around 5pm. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/47519710
