End location: Alberta Park
The area around the Columbia Slough is an eclectic mix of natural areas, industrial properties, and underdeveloped/abandoned lots, all interconnected with wide truck friendly roads and several trails tucked away. Some of those trails are sanctioned and manicured, others are a bit more DIY and, well, neither sanctioned nor manicured. Let's ride out and explore them all! We'll meet at Alberta Park at 9:30 and ride at 10. The route is still evolving but looks like it will settle in around 35-40 miles with about 1,000 feet of elevation. There are no major climbs but we'll be climbing in and out of the flood plain a few times so it starts to add up. There are a few water stops along the route but the forecast is for temps in the 90s so consider carrying some extra water. The lunch stop will be the food trucks at Level Beer on 148th (at mile 20). We expect to be back to Alberta Park by mid-afternoon so you should have plenty of time to prepare for your evening rides. This will be a faster paced but not a hammer fest. There will be periodic regroups, particularly after tricky off-road sections where the group might get spread out a bit and we'll also wait on flats or other mechanicals. We will need to keep the pace to get back at an appropriate time so expect a pace on flat straight sections to be around 14-17 mph as an estimate.
