End location: Sellwood Park
This slow-paced bike ride starts at PSU and ends at Sellwood Park where we will meet a larger group of people canvassing for Mitch Green for Portland City Council District 4. This ride begins at Phat Cart at PSU where the ride leader will review ride safety basics then briefly talk about Portland’s new city council districts and voting districts, particularly District 4 where downtown is located. The ride ends in Sellwood which is also in the southeast part of District 4. This could be a mellow ride and ideal for someone who prefers smaller groups, a route that is mostly on separated bike facilities, and fewest interaction with cars. The downtown portion of the ride involves sharing lanes with cars but eventually leads to protected paths, Tilikum Crossing, and the Springwater Trail. Please be prepared to service your own bicycle or find alternative transportation (transit or Biketown) in the event of a flat or repair issue. You are welcome to end the ride at Sellwood Park without joining the canvass event that starts at noon. There will be cold water and snacks at Sellwood Park. Volunteers for Mitch Green’s campaign will be knocking doors to meet Sellwood neighbors. This ride is led by Maria Sipin, LCI, a certified League cycling instructor and Mitch Green’s campaign manager. Maria volunteers as a bike buddy for BIKELOUD but this is not a BIKELOUD ride.
