Celebrate cycling, body positivity, and resisting fossil fuel dependency at the 20th installment of Portland's World Naked Bike Ride. (Un)dress to your preferred comfort level, grab your favorite human-powered transport, and meet at Colonel Summers Park at 3:30 pm, with the ride kicking off at 4:15. Those who are unable to ride are invited to join along SW Naito Parkway between the Morrison and Burnside bridges for a parade-like atmosphere. This ride is protesting oil dependence, in particular the potential approval of Zenith Energy's new air quality permits by the Department of Environmental Quality, calling for folks to make their opinions heard during the public comment period Clothing optional - do whatever makes you feel comfortable, aka "As bare as you dare". You don’t need to be naked, all wheels, all bodies welcome. This year's route will transform Naito Parkway between the Morrison Bridge and Burnside bridge into a vibrant parade route, inviting spectators to come out, cheer and support from the sidelines. Folks who are not able to join for the ride can support the protest by by cheering on the riders from the sidewalks and waterfront park, as part of this joyous and impactful event, from 4:35pm to 5:15pm. The World Naked Bike Ride makes a powerful statement against oil dependency, calls for safer cycling infrastructure, and promotes body positivity. The World Naked Bike Ride is an international protest movement with rides in dozens of countries, but for the last 20 years Portland Oregon has organized one of the largest local expressions of this global movement. This year we are going to have a ‘die in’ protest, symbolizing the devastating impacts of oil dependency on the on the environment and communities. In particular we hope to bring attention to the massive risk Zenith Energy is posing with their oil train terminal on the Willamette river. The ride will conclude with an after-party at a surprise location with local DJs. World Naked Bike Ride Portland 2024, is Sept 21st, 3:30pm meet and ride at 4:15. This event is open to everyone. Please do not arrive at the park before 3:30 or after 4:15, we want to minimize our time there. Stay behind the ride leaders wearing pink safety vests. Pack in pack out, leave no trace. We are all responsible for this ride and it takes all of us to make it work. There is only one route and one set of ride leaders this year, we need to stay together as a group. Getting clear consent is mandatory before taking photos or touching anyone's bike or body, including those of romantic partners, friends or enemies. We encourage participants to model asking for consent and respecting others' right to say 'no.' Photography is expected during the ride along Naito Parkway & at the ‘die-in’ protest stop, but at the start and end points, please ask before taking identifiable photos of individuals. Any violations of personal space or autonomy needs to be promptly reported to the ride leaders or someone in pink vests. Let's create a safe, enjoyable & respectful environment for everyone! This ride is a global protest. Please bring your nations' or people’s flags. We would love to see all our different heritages, identities and beliefs being flown. This ride is not sponsored by or affiliated with PDXWNBR, Pedalpalooza or Umbrella. World Naked Bike Ride Portland 2024 is coordinated by a collective of over 20 group ride leaders who are passionate about the core values of cycling safety, environmental consciousness, and body positivity. As a decentralized event, World Naked Bike Ride encourages anyone to join the movement and see the power of people on bikes to change the world.
