Join me for a tour of Portland's succulents, with a special emphasis on cacti. As a desert rat I've carefully attuned my senses to seek out every cactus I can find in Portland, as well as having my network of birds, beasts and spies alert me to all they come across. For better or worse, their number and span quickly surpassed the scope of a Pedalpalooza ride, so I am limiting it to just the North and Northeast quadrants for the first edition. Even still, this ride is on the longer side, so buckle up pardner. Ride Pace: ~10 mph Ride Length: ~22 miles This ride is not a fast ride, and there will be numerous opportunities to regroup. That said, it is not strictly no-drop and riders should be responsible for keeping up. The majority of the cacti/succulents along this ride are prickly pear, with a handful of agave and one or two examples of cholla. One or two murals and cactus adjacent decor are also thrown in for good measure. We will be slow rolling past most of the cacti on the ride, but briefly pausing at some of the more notable examples. Roughly half way through we will stop for tacos. And at the end of the ride, all are welcome to join me at Waypost on Williams for beverages and additional food. Western/latin american/southwestern or cactus-themed attire is welcome/encouraged. Even a little bolo tie or turquoise jewelry will do! I will post a route ASAP, as I am making some last minute tweaks.
