Saturday is an international day of action in solidarity with the 400+ civilians from around the world who were kidnapped by Israel this week as they attempted to sail to Gaza to deliver aid to starving Palestinians. 2 Portlanders, our dear friends Stephen Wahab and Paul Reid, were among those kidnapped and are presumed to currently be in Israeli detention. Reports of detainment detail zip tied hands, lack of food and water, and denial of access to lawyers. The prison where they are being held is famous for being a place where many Palestinians have been brutally tortured. In solidarity with these brave humanitarians and all the people of Palestine, come rally outside Powell's on Burnside and SHUT. THINGS. DOWN. This is not a bike ride, but bikes are very much needed! Please show up with your bike and help out: 🚲 Cork for marchers 🚲Ride your bike in circles around Powell's to help bring visibility of the action to the back entrance RBC will be there to help direct corkers and other bikes. Ask organizers if you can't find us! WHY POWELL'S? Powell's is one of the city's most popular tourist destinations, and as such it is an ideal place to show the city of Portland that they need to take this seriously and start taking measures to distance themselves from Apartheid and genocide and help bring Paul and Stephen back home. Additionally, Powell's is one of the largest sellers of racist and Zionist books and is currently promoting Charlie Kirk's new book as an "anticipated release." They may claim that this is because they are protecting free speech, but in reality they are just trying to make a profit off of deeply harmful literature because... capitalism. Every harmful book they sell is also available for sale in other places like Amazon; there's no reason for Powell's to sell them as well. Please join us tomorrow. Free Palestine!
