Meet at 5:00, leave at 5:30 p.m.
8:00 PM
Ride length: 8-15 miles
Are you new to town, or new to gravel biking? Want to explore one of the best off-road paths in the city? Then join our New to Portland Intro to Gravel ride on Tuesday, August 18 from 5-8 p.m.! The ride: We will gather at Cyclepath PDX (2714 NW Thurman St) at 5:00 p.m. and head out promptly at 5:30 p.m. Cyclepath PDX will provide a shuttle to the top of the Leif Erikson trail. The group will ride back to the shop on Thurman Street along Leif Erikson trail. Leif Erikson is a double-track gravel roadbed open to bikes but not cars. The total length of the ride will be 11.5 miles. Who this is for: Everyone! The ride is designed with beginners in mind, so no off-road experience is necessary. This is a great place to see what the off-road hype is all about and make some friends all while enjoying a pleasant, light ride. The gear: Please come prepared with an off-road ready bike in safe, working condition. This means the tires are a little wider (we recommend a minimum of 32mm wide), ideally you've got some gears, and suspension (shocks) are useful but not required. Be sure to bring a helmet, water bottle, snacks, fanny pack or bike bag, and weather-specific clothing that can get sweaty. The plan: We will gather at Cyclepath West bike shop at 5 p.m. and head out on the shuttle by 5:30 p.m. Afterwards, join us for a hang session including light snacks and good company. RSVP: This event is free but space is limited. This event is a partnership between the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT), Northwest Trail Alliance (NWTA), and Cyclepath PDX. Questions? Reach us at smarttrips@portlandoregon.gov
