2nd Annual Pickleball Ride Letās play pickleball! Bring your best self and your most creative trash talk, big swings, even bigger misses, laughter, and high-fives. Last year we had a ton of fun at Mount Tabor tennis courts while the sun was up, then rode to Laurelhurst to play in the dark with a bunch of portable lighting, and will do the same this year. Please show up early to help set up our courts. I canāt set up everything quickly. Thanks to everyone who helped last year! This year we have a twist to our daylight session at Tabor -- crazy rules! I have a list of about ten rules, and weāll introduce a rule or two once every ten minutes; this way everyone can get used to the rules and play a bit before learning new ones. Examples: - The āno volley zoneā (NVZ), also known as the ākitchen,ā is still NVZ if you use your normal paddle, buuuuut ⦠if you use a kitchen utensil or frying pan, you CAN volley in the kitchen. Using a cookie sheet is highly encouraged, and is worth 2 points if you hit a winning shot while yelling, āBakerās Dozen!ā Do you know how loud it gets when a cookie sheet slams a pickleball? Well, some of us donāt, and canāt wait to find out. - Bicycles form the net. If you ācall itā, then hit a basket, handlebars, or bike seat with the ball, your team wins the point outright; if you hit a ball into a basket and it stays in, that makes it a basket ball, hence 2 points. - āBody parts ruleā; one can only guess, unless one joins this ride⦠- and other rules for max silliness and hopefully lots of laughs Iāll bring 2 or 3 pickleball nets, line markers, and a few paddles like last year, but pls bring paddles and balls if you can. Even better is if you bring KITCHEN utensils, cookie sheet, pots, pans, etc. Iāll also bring lots of lights: LED paddles, LED pickleballs, glow bracelets, EL wire to mark the net, UV reactive tape and UV lamps to make court lines glow, and lots of other lights including disco lights.
