Meetup 8:45ish. Announcements 9:00. Rollout 9:05
End location: Bull Mountain Park
Ride length: 15+ miles
You are invited to La Flèche PDX. Like its namesake La Flèche Wallone, it will dish out relentless, steep climbs. As you have come to expect with all the PDX Classics, this parcourse will provide a voyage of discovery, pleasure, and pain over 95% paved steeps with a little dirt thrown in to make connections and keep you on your toes. A light road bike with 28mm slicks and some underbiking skills is the optimum steed. Feel free to size up your rubber if you're okay with the weight penalty and prefer the confidence on the few dirty sections. This time we play in an area where many folks haven’t explored – ravaging multiple steeps of Bull Mountain and Cooper Mountain, plus visits to the lesser East Butte, Sexton Mountain, and Mount Williams. We’ll seek and destroy most of the hard climbs in Tigard and South Beaverton. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/33028481 We begin the day in downtown Tigard's Rotary Plaza behind Symposium Coffee. If you’re suburbaphobic, don’t worry. It’s an easy 10 mile ride to the start from downtown Portland - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/34277087 There is also ample parking if you choose to drive to the start. Like the Mur de Huy at the end of La Flèche Wallone, this course saves one of the most brutal punches to your legs until the very end. Don’t let the cutesy name of Morningstar Drive fool you. It should be named Deathstar Drive. But fear not - after recovering and celebrating with the water fountain and shade of Bull Mountain Park at the end, you can practically coast the whole way back to the start on this boring return route - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/34294850 (more interesting options exist). There will be an Aid Station and Celebration Station thanks to Skratch Labs, Nossa Familia Coffee, Hopworks Brewing. To raise funds for our charities, Gifted Wishes, and Community Cycling Center, we are raffling cool, original art (attached) by local artist Phoebe featuring phenom Paul Seixas, winner of this year's Flèche Wallone. Raffle tickets for sale and start, aid station, and finish. Need not be present to win. $10 for 1. $40 for each 5 tickets. The course will NOT be painted. You must know how to navigate with your phone or GPS head unit. Event is free and unsanctioned. Ride at your own risk. You are responsible for your own safety. Course is entirely on public streets and paths. Be polite and yield to pedestrian on any shared surfaces. Obey all laws. Sign the waiver to join. www.rondepdx.com RwGPS event https://ridewithgps.com/events/153194-la-fleche-pdx-2026 Strava event https://strava.app.link/dgBYFy6TV4b https://www.instagram.com/chasing.lions.pdx/ https://ridewithgps.com/organizations/6577-chasing-lions-the-pdx-classics
