Not a ride
Variable, announced every Thursday, TBA
Brian McGloin
Sat, May 17, 2025, 9:00 AM
Starts at about 9, people roll in and out through around 11
We meet at a different park in Portland every Saturday all year morning at about 9 to talk about home repair, travel plans, obscure board games, insects, etymology and sometimes bikes. Coffee Outside is often a meeting or starting point for adventures, day rides, group food cart rides or other outings. Bring a means to make coffee or some sort of coffee-adjacent beverage, or not. Instant chai? Perfect. A canned coffee beverage from the bodega? Legit. A special small batch blend of beans roasted in your neighborhood roastery that you measure by weight (portable scale, naturally) hand-grind in your titanium grinder before making a slow pour-over using hand-made paper filters and perfect temperature water? Sure, go for it. Baked goods are always appreciated but not at all required. Uniform? Nope. Fancy bike? Nope. Racing or ultra bikepacking chops? Nope. We enthusiastically welcome new faces and have no barrier to entry other than being your authentic self and leaving any bad/aggro attitudes at home. We post the location every Thursday on the PDX Coffee Outside website, which our friend Chris updates, and our Instagram account.

Join us for the Coffee to Books to Beer bike ride! This fun, laid-back social ride is the best way to start the weekend, discover new spots, and have a good time. This ride is all about community, connection, and discovering new spots in Portland. Each ride we meet for a quick coffee, cruise to a local bookstore for a quick stop and browse break, then wrap things up with a pint at a brewery or taphouse near where we started. Every ride is a loop. This month we’ll meet at Albina Press at 9:30 AM to have a cup of coffee and chat with other riders. At 10:15 AM, we’ll kick off the ride, cruising through a scenic 12-mile loop with a stop at a local bookstore midway and ending at an all-ages welcome venue around noon for a well earned beverage. This ride is family-friendly and designed for riders of all levels. The pace is easy, and the vibe is friendly. Everyone is welcome! We are going to try and host the Coffee to Books to Beer ride once a month from May through October from various locations. Keep an eye on the Shifts2Bikes calendar for more rides. We hope to see you there!

Meet at 2, ride 2:30
End location: NW
For over a decade, activists around the globe have come together in May for Anti-Chevron Month. This May, we're heeding the call to action by getting on our bikes and going on a spirited protest tour of Chevrons around town. We'll meet in Irving Park at 2pm and roll out promptly at 2:30. We'll stop for mini protests at 3 Chevron locations over the course of a 5 mile ride, and finish out with a bonus activity at a mystery location in NW. This is our third Chevron protest ride, and this time we're asking riders to bring their big feelings and revolutionary joy in the form of whatever noisemaking device they prefer, whether that's their clapping hands, a pot or pan, or an impassioned speech to give to the crowd. We'll have a big speaker and a mic–don't be shy! Please also bring your signs, flags, banners and keffiyehs! This will be an easy-paced no-drop ride; all wheels/all riders welcome. There won't be a store stop but there will be vegan food and drinks at our end location. A FEW REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN US IN PROTESTING CHEVRON: –Chevron is the perpetrator of the worst oil-based disaster in history: the intentional mass dumping of 16 billion gallons of toxic wastewater and oil into the Ecuadorian Amazon –Chevron produces more greenhouse gas emissions than nearly any other investor-owned company –Chevron is supporting/profiting from the genocide in Gaza, and is one of the biggest targets of the Palestinian-led BDS (boycott, divest, sanction) movement –Chevron spends millions upon millions of dollars annually on lobbying politicians to prevent any meaningful climate change legislation from happening (democracy and capitalism are incompatible, y'all) ***Journalists who wish to come along on our rides are encouraged to contact us in advance. Please DO NOT publicly post identifiable pictures of attendees without getting consent.*** See you there!

9:15 AM
End location: City Hall
Are you inspired, hopeful, angry, committed, dubious, or unsure about the safety of Portland's streets? Then this ride is for you! Meet at 7:45 am on SE Taylor at the west side of Cesar E Chavez, and leave at 8 am SHARP to bike to City Hall for the 8:30 City celebration of bicycling and walking. As bicyclists, we will celebrate with PURPOSE, because for years, we've known we can't get to Vision Zero if our city leaders have zero vision. Note that our meeting point is adjacent to the bus stop where a driver killed Jeanie Diaz in July 2023. This intersection has become even MORE dangerous in the nearly two years since Diaz's death, indicating that Portland has been moving in the wrong direction. But we've elected a new city council, and we must turn out to support the Council members who are working for safer streets, and remind the rest of Council that Portland, or any city, only thrives if it centers human well being. The official city celebration info is here: https://www.portland.gov/council/districts/3/tiffany-koyama-lane/events/2025/5/19/walk-bike-school-work-week-celebration Meet us at City Hall if you can't make the ride. You can also sign up to testify at City Council. Duration: 30 minutes to ride, another hour to attend the rally. More if you stay for City Council meeting.

A master plan for PDX airport is being crafted to determine what the airport will look like for the next 20 years. Ride with us from Cully Park to the airport for a meeting of the Planning Advisory Committee to give public comment demanding safe and convenient biking to the airport. Currently, most routes to the airport are not safe. Proper connections from the airport to the regular Portland bike network would benefit people working at the airport and travelers. Ride is a loop
End location: Ride is always a loop
Our instagram is nakedHeartspdx so you can see how we ride. Weekly themed rides. Different ride leaders each week, but you can expect the ride to be social paced (8ish mph), no-drop, safe and welcoming, store stop with safe clean bathroom access and the ride is always a loop. We practice consent and non-violence specially with car interactions, what one ride does affects how all rides get treated. The Mellow Mondays are a space for (new) ride leaders to try out ideas in a very supported environment. You’ll often see Mondays rides appearing again during the warmer riding season. We follow the shift code of conduct and expect everyone to be respectful of themselves and others around them. This is so we can actually relax and have fun and connect with each other in a softer space. This isn’t a sober ride but we ask for moderation to keep the atmosphere relaxed. We recommend Abraham Fixes bikes in N Williams and NomadCycles (e-bike specialist) for repairs/sales and parts. Our friends over at RideSafePDX host regular ride and we’ recommend those as a pleasant warm group to ride with.

FKA Twosday Road Rascals but a slightly fdifferent approach The north starting every other Tuesday ride continues the tradition at Irving park with different ends then usual ones plus new ride leads popping up thru summer so if you wanna lead just ask! Party paced to swifter at times with regroups and a real no drop mentality. Meets at the picnic tables by the tennis courts or under the covered area if it rains. Meet around 6:45 for a 7:30ish roll out! If you’re banned from other rides don’t come on this one. Pretty simple lol. Portland Bicycling Club hosts a Ride of Silence: Ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. with departure at 7 p.m. from Woodstock Park SE 47th and Steele. This is part of a worldwide event to honor bicyclists killed by motorists, promote sharing the road and provide awareness of bicycling safety. The route will take us to the sites of 5 bike/car crashes resulting in the death of the cyclists. The terrain is relatively flat and participants may leave the ride at any time. Distance is 15 miles. This will be a group ride with a maximum speed of 12 mph. Helmets are mandatory. Please have lights (think funeral protocol) and a black arm band would be appropriate.

Meet at 7:00, announcements at 7:30, leave after “Beer Minutes.”
End location: Not a loop, but usually with a fire.
Thursday Night Ride is Portland’s longest-running weekly social ride, riding every Thursday night since 2015! Routes and ride leaders change weekly, but expect an energetic party-paced “rolling dive bar” of a ride for newcomers and regulars alike. Most rides will feature park and store stops, but come prepared to have fun and celebrate cycling together—other wheeled guests should respect the pace and space of cyclists. New leadership, same positive vibes. While you might expect some wheelies and other chaos, riders are expected to follow Shift’s Code of Conduct, and if you’re banned from any Shift rides, TNR isn’t for you. No complaints, just accountability—if your behavior makes others feel uncomfortable or unsafe, please leave the ride before the ride leaves you. Riders should practice consent, accountability, respect, and de-escalation at all times. Stay behind the ride leader and don’t forget to thank a corker! 📍 Salmon Street Springs, every Thursday, rain or shine. 🕖 Meet at 7:00, announcements at 7:30. ✨Be an Empowered Bystander✨ See something off? Step up in a way that feels right for you: 🗣️ Direct: If it's safe, say *That's Not Right* for TNR. 🎭 Distract: Change the vibe and give them an out 🙋🏽 Delegate: Get help from a ride leader or trusted friend ⏳ Delay: Check in with the person afterwards 📝 Document: Write down what happened
⛲️ If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to get involved, come early and ask for the ride leader—we’ll see you at the fountain!

Then we’ll move into free-form adventure planning time. Bring your device, journal, or maps to start scheming in the company of friends who can help brainstorm and answer questions. Whether you're looking for tips, inspiration, or just a good hang with potential future adventure buddies—this is your space. We’ll have snacks and NA drinks! Not a ride!

Interested in learning about locations in Portland that used to be freeways or had plans to make them freeways? Come on a tour of Portland’s Freeway History Ride where we’ll tour areas downtown, N, NE, and SE. This ride will have a moderate hill climb in the middle. The pace will be between 8 to 10 MPH. The ride will be about 11 miles. There will be 7 or so stops that’ll be 3-5 minutes each which will focus on the history of a section of freeway. If you are a banned rider from any other rides you are banned here also. We will follow the shift code of conduct and expect everyone to be respectful of themselves and others around them. We will likely call for corking at certain points and if you are able to help please leave some distance between yourself and the cars and be friendly to help keep all of us safe.

Meet @ 10am, “ride” at 10:30 finish by 1:30pm
End location: Sunnyside Elementary School
Join BikeLoud PDX volunteers and bike powered street sweeper to make a section of our greenway system more safe to navigate by making visible any obstructed rode signage, bike infrastructure, and by making visible potential roadway hazards. It is intended to be the first of two annual rides, one in the spring and one in the fall. I’m open to taking input on where the next ride route should cover. We’ll begin by working to clear organic matter from the pathways immediately around and in the park and then move to the switchback that heads down to the Eastbank Esplanade. From there we’ll head down the Esplanade and then east up Salmon Street greenway. The ride will finish at Sunnyside Elementary School with some vegan and GF food provided. Food and beverages welcome (doesn’t have to be Vegan or GF just communicate to to those you share with to respect each individual’s dietary needs) * Needed items: gloves for removing organic debris, pruning shears, yard waste & trash bags, hand brooms/brooms, dust pans, cargo bikes, bikes with trailers & bikes with saddle bags, baskets or other storage for hauling away what we clean up. This ride is meant to build community while making our roadways more safe. As such we hope to attract community minded folks to join us and will be following the Shift Code of Conduct: https://www.shift2bikes.org/pages/shift-code-of-conduct/
