Title says it all. The upper deck of the Steel Bridge opened to traffic on this day in 1912, so let's celebrate! We'll ride over this one-of-a-kind bridge en route to Bike Portland Happy Hour at Gorges Beer. That's it. If you miss the ride, say HBD to the bridge on your own and meet us at Gorges Beer (2705 SE Ankeny St, Portland, OR 97214). The Steel Bridge is the only double-deck bridge with independent lifts in the world and the second oldest vertical-lift bridge in North America, after the nearby Hawthorne Bridge. Did you know that the Steel Bridge is privately owned but used to carry one of the West Coast's primary highways, US 99W?
