Ride is a loop
Tandem riding on gravel?? What a ridiculous idea, so let's do it! Our city was built on a forest, and that forest still exists along the gravel roads. This ten-mile loop in SE Portland covers some of Gravelland's favorite SE gravel sections, including the shoulder of Mt Tabor park. First-time gravel riders, if you're game, this is not a race, it's all about the fun of gravel in the city; we don't have the resources for sweeping the course but this is a no-drop ride. There will be frequent gathering spots along the way. And while most of the gravel is fairly smooth and level, every section has a paved road that parallels it, and there's not a thing wrong with opting out of some of the steeper, more rutted sections. You'll want gravel or knobby tires for this event; smooth road tires will not work. There is one potentially difficult crossing of SE 52nd (there is a traffic light a few blocks away if we need it), and a couple other crossings of moderate difficulty. There will be no crossing marshals (corkers), we'll have to be careful and help each other.
