Not a ride
Variable, announced every Thursday, TBA
Brian McGloin
Sat, Jul 26, 2025, 9:00 AM
Starts at about 9, people roll in and out through around 11
We meet at a different park in Portland every Saturday all year morning at about 9 to talk about home repair, travel plans, obscure board games, insects, etymology and sometimes bikes. Coffee Outside is often a meeting or starting point for adventures, day rides, group food cart rides or other outings. Bring a means to make coffee or some sort of coffee-adjacent beverage, or not. Instant chai? Perfect. A canned coffee beverage from the bodega? Legit. A special small batch blend of beans roasted in your neighborhood roastery that you measure by weight (portable scale, naturally) hand-grind in your titanium grinder before making a slow pour-over using hand-made paper filters and perfect temperature water? Sure, go for it. Baked goods are always appreciated but not at all required. Uniform? Nope. Fancy bike? Nope. Racing or ultra bikepacking chops? Nope. We enthusiastically welcome new faces and have no barrier to entry other than being your authentic self and leaving any bad/aggro attitudes at home. We post the location every Thursday on the PDX Coffee Outside website, which our friend Chris updates, and our Instagram account.

Sat, Jul 26, 2025, 9:00 AM
Ride at 10am
End location: Hillsboro Downtown Farmers Market
This will be a high traffic road ride like the previous ones. The goal is to bring cyclists together and show our government officials across Washington County, including Washco, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, Bethany, and beyond that even though we're in the suburbs, our community is full of cyclists who deserve safe infrastructure too. Our leaders need to work together! We need infrastructure that makes riders and families feel safe—because when people feel safe, more will ride! All people and all wheels are welcome! Always stick to riding in the right lane. ------------- The party will kick off at Cascade Bikes in Beaverton at 9am! The closest Max station is the Beaverton Central Max stop (the round). We will depart at 10am and ride en-masse to Hillsboro, ending at the Hillsboro Farmers Market. The closest Max station at the end will be the Hillsboro Central/SE 3rd TC Max stop. The ride will be approximately 10 miles with a bathroom break near the middle. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/51732700 ------------- This ride will abide by and follow the Shift Code Of Conduct. We are here to celebrate cycling in the West Suburbs, not to antagonize drivers, however we will be corking our ride to ensure the safety of our riders. What is Critical Mass? A mass bike ride and party-protest in cities all over the world, started 30 years ago in San Francisco! Critical Mass bike rides are not just about cycling, it's about reclaiming public space, celebrating community, and making a statement for sustainable urban living. Streets are not just for cars and large group rides help to assert bicyclists' right to ride in the streets and celebrate the bicycle as a form of transportation. There is strength and safety in numbers What is corking? Corking is when you use your bike & body as a wall to ensure the ride can pass through an intersection safely, to keep the group together. Remember, strength and safety in numbers! This ride may not be suitable for small kids on their own bikes as we may be on busy roads with traffic.

Meet at 11AM, roll at 11:30AM Calling all fans of Roman Mars - if you've wanted to know more about the streets and alleys of your city, this is the ride for you! My aim is to create a "99% Invisible, Live" experience. We'll explore the impact that human development and natural features have had on the streets of our city. Highways, streetcars, waterways, and housing development have all influenced the streets we ride our bikes on. This is not a "family friendly" ride per se (I don't know the first thing about leading a ride for tiny humans!) but children over the age of 12 might enjoy the content. I aim to share information at a middle-school level. We will ride at an 8-10 MPH pace and regroup at the top of hills. If you're interested in helping with sweeping and corking, please reach out to @architecturetourspdx on Instagram. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/51334017

Portapotties on Leif Erikson Trail, 4099 NW Thurman St, Portland, OR 97210

D'Glass, P'Pedal, Past Tire
Sat, Jul 26, 2025, 3:00 PM
Roll at 3:30
6:00 PM
End location: Burlington Beach in St. Johns
The Leif Erikson Trail is one of Portland's secret summer gems. 12 miles of bicycling on a shaded, north-facing forest road. It's a great place to be naked if you want cool shady conditions, and few onlookers. It's a steep climb up to Thurmon St to get to the trailhead, but from the start location for 12 miles to Germantown Road it's only moderately hilly, as the road mostly follows the contour lines. Packed gravel with rocks. It can be done on road bikes, but more comfortable with wider tires.

Carnival 5-8 pm; ride to WNBR leaves promptly at 8. Arrive early to get face and body paint.
End location: WNBR start point (Grant Park)
The World Naked Bike Ride is a protest, so let's ride together to protest the genocide in Palestine and the way that big oil (Chevron, specifically) has aided and profited from genocide. Come find Revolutionary Bicycle Club at Gays Eating the Rich in the Park (yes, it's happening again!), where we will have face & body paints to get everyone decorated and ready to ride together to WNBR as a Free Palestine/Boycott Chevron bloc. Please keep it PG until we leave Laurelhurst. If you're getting body paint with us, we recommend wearing a swimsuit or something similar that our painters can work around without you needing to bare it all. And of course there's no pressure to get naked at all– do what makes you comfortable. If you missed it the first time around, Gays Eating the Rich in the Park is a queer resistance carnival (hosted by Rose City Indivisible and PDX Queer Meetup) for folks who want to make new friends while raging at Trump piñatas. Don't forget to bring a potluck item and some clothes to swap. Masks encouraged; billionaires and ICE strongly discouraged (and liable to get eaten😋). The carnival is from 5-8 at Laurelhurst Park and Revolutionary Bicycle Club will be there the whole time and then roll out promptly at 8 to head to WNBR. Riders are welcome to part ways when we get to the start point of WNBR, but we encourage everyone to continue to ride with us in a protest bloc. Our message is stronger when we're together. Plus we'll have the good revolutionary music 🇵🇸🎵 Check out @rosecityindivisible and @pdxqueermeetup on IG for more details about the carnival, and follow @revolutionarybicycleclub for more info on bike rides.

RIDE #5: POWELL BLVD Powell Park to 145th x Powell, brief pause at Essex Park - 6.9 miles, no loop. UPDATE: The direction and length have been changed. This ride will end at the location where a cyclist, Raymond Myers, was recently hit and killed. Riders are invited to bring flowers or other memorial items to leave at the end location. Our city is lacerated by multi-lane highways and stroads that are hostile to human life and subservient to mass automobility. These rides aim to prefigure what these wretched roadways should become -- long, straight, safe courses for human-powered transit! We claim these roads for bicycling! These rides will take the entire rightmost travel lane, and potentially more, depending on size -- the more people show up to ride together, the less individual bravery any one person needs to bring. Due to the current unsafety of these roads, these rides are not particularly recommended for younger children. The goal is to consistently move at ~12 mph, though we'll maintain whatever pace we need to stay together. The ride leader is an experienced road rider and will ride in the back as caboose/sweep with a brightly visible trailer. Snacks, waters, first aid kit, and bike tools will be on hand. We will follow road laws, but will prioritize staying together as a group, so corking would be welcome if the group size justifies it. This is a series of six rides on "unfriendly" roads -- demanding by action that no city streets should be unfriendly to people outside of cars! June 29, 3:00pm - 11th/12th-Milwaukie July 6, 5:00pm - Cesar Chavez July 12, 11:00am - Sandy July 20, 2:00pm - 82nd July 27, 10:00am - Powell August 3, 1:00pm - MLK Jr.

(Be near average height ~5'10" or have a burley trailer hitch on your bike, get in touch if you want to try it and not sure about this, #sweeper channel on the slack or e-mail etc.) We'll ride Terwilliger to downtown, meet the other sweepers, and try a variety of sweeping challenges, separated/curb-protected lanes, flexposts, and comparing the different sweepers' advantages or techniques in each location. Closed-toed shoes, leather/work gloves, safety glasses, and respirator/N95 mask recommended for comfort and safety. Each device includes a powered broom and can throw dust/debris in some cases. There are ways to stay out of the dust and debris but be prepared. Participants are welcome to watch from a distance or get as hands-on as they want. Rides will converge downtown and end at Go By Bike on S Moody.

Join me for a tour of Portland's succulents, with a special emphasis on cacti. As a desert rat I've carefully attuned my senses to seek out every cactus I can find in Portland, as well as having my network of birds, beasts and spies alert me to all they come across. For better or worse, their number and span quickly surpassed the scope of a Pedalpalooza ride, so I am limiting it to just the North and Northeast quadrants for the first edition. Even still, this ride is on the longer side, so buckle up pardner. Ride Pace: ~10 mph Ride Length: ~22 miles This ride is not a fast ride, and there will be numerous opportunities to regroup. That said, it is not strictly no-drop and riders should be responsible for keeping up. The majority of the cacti/succulents along this ride are prickly pear, with a handful of agave and one or two examples of cholla. One or two murals and cactus adjacent decor are also thrown in for good measure. We will be slow rolling past most of the cacti on the ride, but briefly pausing at some of the more notable examples. Roughly half way through we will stop for tacos. And at the end of the ride, all are welcome to join me at Waypost on Williams for beverages and additional food. Western/latin american/southwestern or cactus-themed attire is welcome/encouraged. Even a little bolo tie or turquoise jewelry will do! I will post a route ASAP, as I am making some last minute tweaks.

Let’s ride to the Pickles Mascot Olympics game! Join us for a ride to Walker Stadium to see the Portland Pickles on their Mascot Olympics Night. We'll meet at Ladd's Circle and ride to Walker Stadium. The game starts at 6:05 (but it's usually more like 6:15). We'll plan on getting to the stadium at 5:45. It's just a little over 5 miles to the stadium. The ride will be a slow to moderate pace, around 8-10 MPH as it's a gradual uphill the majority of the ride. Obviously this ride doesn’t include tickets to the game. Getting tickets all in the same section can be challenging the closer it is to game day, but you can always choose to get tickets on the berms. As of 6/23/25, Section 203 has a lot of open seats all together which could be fun. After the game we'll ride back to Ladds but you are free to split off and go your own way home. * if you are coming with us please sign up to get a tattoo!! Nichole really wants one and if you don’t, maybe you’ll win and she can get yours 😆. https://www.portlandpicklesbaseball.com/tattoo-rsvp

End location: It's a mystery!
Time to get off the beaten path on a weeknight adventure! We'll explore areas east of I-205, in search of the unpaved and the unknown. Expect some streets, paths, cut-throughs, and "is this really a public right of way" moments. Any bike should be able to do this ride, though wider tires (north of 32mm) would not hurt. This is no fast ride, instead a ramble at moderate speeds where we'll have the opportunity to stop and enjoy things. (No drop!) If you've been interested in an adventurous ride like this, but get intimidated by the fast pace that many of these rides take, try this one out. There will also be a store stop and an endpoint to watch the sunset. Ride not a loop. Note: While the start point and general vicinity is the same as last year's ride, the route and where we explore will be new.

Ride is a loop
End location: Ride is always a loop
Our instagram is nakedHeartspdx so you can see how we ride. Weekly themed rides. Different ride leaders each week, but you can expect the ride to be social paced (8ish mph), no-drop, safe and welcoming, store stop with safe clean bathroom access and the ride is always a loop. We practice consent and non-violence specially with car interactions, what one ride does affects how all rides get treated. The Mellow Mondays are a space for (new) ride leaders to try out ideas in a very supported environment. You’ll often see Mondays rides appearing again during the warmer riding season. We follow the shift code of conduct and expect everyone to be respectful of themselves and others around them. This is so we can actually relax and have fun and connect with each other in a softer space. This isn’t a sober ride but we ask for moderation to keep the atmosphere relaxed. We recommend Abraham Fixes bikes in N Williams and NomadCycles (e-bike specialist) for repairs/sales and parts. Our friends over at RideSafePDX host regular ride and we’ recommend those as a pleasant warm group to ride with.

Quick how to lead a ride tutorial before Mellow Mondays ride. Things we’ll cover, Theme creation, Creating the atmosphere you want, Sourcing support, Route planning, Speed, What if’s…… Then QnA. This is meant as a conversation opener and an opportunity to move towards leading your own rides. This will be lead by Moorland with occasional support. Brief Bio: NakedHearts has lead around 350 ish rides, with 100 ish different ride leaders, we’ve worked with local schools, government agencies, festivals, DJ’s, Bands, venues, parades, artist groups of all kinds and supported 100 ish other rides. So we have a little experience. But the all the experience just teaches caring about the ride and riders is what matters, and everything flows from there. For most people that comes naturally. Kiro (who’s only 8 years old) is considered the best ride leader and he cares about the ride and riders and having fun and that’s what makes him the best because that’s his focus. The mechanics of leading and organizing can seem daunting but it’s within reach of all of us.

End location: The top of Mt. Tabor
Do you like going up Tabor? Do you like messing around at midnight? Why not come with me and combine the two things? (I'm doing this on Monday for the alliteration... sorry if you have work in the morning!) =+=+=+=+=+=+= THE RIDE IS NOT A LOOP =+=+=+=+=+=+= The plan is to meet at Ladd's at around 11:45 pm. Roll out around midnight. We'll do a lap or two to start, then head over to Salmon. Then cross over to Taylor at 34th to make use of the light to cross Chavez. Then we'll cross back to Salmon, go through a dirt alley (please try to keep the noise down in the alley as there’s houses right there), and then over to Tabor. Easy! In my experience, Portland is pretty much completely shut down by this point so we shouldn’t see too many cars. Still, it doesn’t hurt to obey traffic lights just in case. There maybe certain “liberties” taken if the coast is clear though… Be aware that I’m riding a fixed gear bike and I will go at a pace that’s comfy for me and my gearing. However, this is no drop ride that’s about chill vibes and fun. It’s not intended to be a race or a sprint up to the top. If you have a mechanical, please let someone know and we’ll wait for you. I don’t want anyone to be stranded at midnight… We can also regroup at various points as we go up Tabor as well, so don’t feel like you have to be an epic climber to participate. If yer banned elsewhere, yer banned here. Obviously, because this is a night ride, yer gunna need lights, so bring em. You may also need a jacket or something. It could get chilly on the descent. Once we get to the top, you're free to go home at that point. I'll probably do some laps at the top and enjoy the view for a bit. You’re obviously welcome to keep riding around tabor with me. Others may choose to hang out even longer or go ride around somewhere else. I don't know. The idea for this was just to ride up Tabor in the dark hahaha Given that it's Tabor, you may want to bring some bug spray or something. The mosquitoes up there like to dine on sweaty cyclists. But if you go home right away, you should be ok. So come and ride up Tabor with me at midnight! If y’all like this enough, I’ll put more of these on the calendar :)

My family doesn't get to visit from the Midwest very often, so I'm hosting a Pedalpalooza ride so that they can get the full Bike Summer experience. Bring your kiddos or pick up your kids from school after work, visit the fountain for a bit, and then let's do a simple loop around the Waterfront. We'll go from the Salmon Springs Fountain along Better Naito to the Steel Bridge, south onto the Eastbank Esplanade, and then back over the Hawthorne Bridge to our starting point. This will be a great ride for parents and kids who want to gain confidence in city riding without actually riding in the same place as cars, since we'll be in protected bike lanes or greenways the whole time. It will also be a great way for you to start your evening commute!

We continue the tradition that started at the picnic tables at Irving park years ago. The torch has been passed and we’re back! Well be focusing different end spots then usual ones plus we’ll have new ride leads popping up thru summer so if you want to lead just ask! Party paced to swifter at times with regroups and a real no drop mentality. Meets at the picnic tables by the tennis courts or under the covered area if it rains. Meet around 7 for a 7:45 roll out! If you’re banned from other rides don’t come on this one. Pretty simple lol. Don’t be an asshole to others on the ride and traffic or pedestrians, respect people’s space consent and possessions. We strive to make this a safe place for all and welcoming to everyone 🖤🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️✊

The Father of Molecular Biology. The Vitamin C guy. Winner of not one but TWO Nobel Prizes. The man, the myth, the Portland-born legend: Linus Pauling. Join us in celebrating this enigmatic public figure with a chill, no-drop (<10 mph) ride. We'll hit a slew of secret Linus spots, including but not limited to Linus Pauling's boyhood home, his alma mater Washington HS, and the Goose Hollow Inn. Emergen-C packets will be made available for important hydration and nutritional purposes. Ride is about 8 miles from Ladd's to Goose Hollow (not a loop). We'll end right by Goose Hollow MAX station if you want to transit it back to East Side afterwards. Also, we'll be making a stop at Revolution Hall at Mile 5 -- if you're wanting a shorter ride, that'll be an easy place to dip out.

TNR #539: Rocky Butte 2 Electric Boogaloo
Thursday Night Ride
Thu, Jul 31, 2025, 7:00 PM
Meet at 7:00, announcements at 7:30, leave after “Beer Minutes.”
End location: Not a loop, but usually with a fire.
Thursday Night Ride is Portland’s longest-running weekly social ride, riding every Thursday night since 2015! Routes and ride leaders change weekly, but expect an energetic party-paced “rolling dive bar” of a ride for newcomers and regulars alike. Most rides will feature park and store stops, but come prepared to have fun and celebrate cycling together—other wheeled guests should respect the pace and space of cyclists. New leadership, same positive vibes. While you might expect some wheelies and other chaos, riders are expected to follow Shift’s Code of Conduct, and if you’re banned from any Shift rides, TNR isn’t for you. No complaints, just accountability—if your behavior makes others feel uncomfortable or unsafe, please leave the ride before the ride leaves you. Riders should practice consent, accountability, respect, and de-escalation at all times. Stay behind the ride leader and don’t forget to thank a corker! 📍 Salmon Street Springs, every Thursday, rain or shine. 🕖 Meet at 7:00, announcements at 7:30. ✨Be an Empowered Bystander✨ See something off? Step up in a way that feels right for you: 🗣️ Direct: If it's safe, say *That's Not Right* for TNR. 🎭 Distract: Change the vibe and give them an out 🙋🏽 Delegate: Get help from a ride leader or trusted friend ⏳ Delay: Check in with the person afterwards 📝 Document: Write down what happened
⛲️ If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to get involved, come early and ask for the ride leader—we’ll see you at the fountain!

June 19: Happy Juneteenth! Ay Papi, is meeting us at the top with his mobile DJ setup and playing whatever he wants (usually house or techno). TNR will meet us up there later in the night. Meet 7ish. Ride 8 ish.
Find your bike Every Friday Night. We meet at Ladds circle, in the circle. If it is raining, head down to the covered area of Abernethy Elementary School. Ride slowly meets at 7 pm and departs roughly at 7:45/8ish pm. An honorary 3 minutes of Ladd laps (Ding Ding Ride/Ladd500) and then we send it. Sometimes we have guest ride leaders. Friday Night Rides are different every time. Sometimes we go to other rides happening around town during the summer. End of ride fires/good vibes/respect/no jerks/ We are a community. Respect each other! No aggressive, sexist, racist, or any other kind of BS will be tolerated. Violations against the code of conduct will be reported to shift2bikes. If you ride Sur-Ron/powerful electric bikes this is not the ride for you. You can come but you might be heckled. This is a bicycle ride. Bring lights/locks/responsible vibes/a cup/ Casual pace with some extra zip 10-20ish mile rides with store stops/park stops/art stops NOT NECESSARILY A NO DROP RIDE… ESPECIALLY IN THE FALL/WINTER/SPRING. Be careful of slippery roads/leafs on ground/pot holes. Call out road hazards to help bike friends stay safe. 1st Friday is bottle share night. (bottle of wine/crazy beer/kombucha/coconut water/fizzy waters/anything you like to drink/want to share) 2nd Fridays are MMR - later night vibes to make it to Midnight Mystery Ride. If you want to lead a ride just ask! REPEAT… NOT NECESSARILY A NO DROP RIDE… ESPECIALLY IN THE FALL/WINTER/SPRING. Guest ride leaders wanted and appreciated! Instagram @fridaynightride

Variable, announced every Thursday, TBA

Sat, Aug 2, 2025, 9:00 AM

Are you ever riding your bicycle and wishing you had a soundtrack to go along with your ride? Bring on the boots and cats, because it's time to learn how to beatbox while riding a bicycle! Make fun noises and beats with your mouth, all while keeping your hands on the handlebars. We'll start with a quick introduction to beatboxing, and then we'll ride to places around town that have great acoustics or would be great impromptu beatboxing spots. Beatboxing is easy to pick up but hard to master, so this is a ride for everyone. Sponsored by Beatbox PDX, dedicated to creating a beatbox movement in our fabulous city.

Meetup starting at 4:30, Ride at 5:00 SHARP!
7:00 PM
Are you tired of Pedalpalooza rides that start late? Are you maybe a little bit too Type-A for roll out in "five-minutes"? Join us for our third annual celebration of punctuality and sticking to schedules while we tour some of Portland's Public Time-Keeping Devices and other clock adjacent places. No shade meant towards other ride leaders, love you all! This is a casual pace no drop mentality, but we do have a schedule to keep Ride Schedule: This year we'll be in the inner east-side and downtown. Times are listed as the DEPARTURE from the Location. We will be taking a break at each location to make sure we stay on schedule and let other people join us along the way. There is no official store stop but there are convenience store options near the Enzo's Dog Training stop that you could grab a quick snack. Note: There is a short bike carry up 5 stairs on the route, we can have a few folks ride a detour if folks have particularly heavy bikes. 5:00 - NE Irving & 15th (Benson High School Sundial) 5:30 - NE Broadway & 33rd (Enzo's Dog Training) 5:55 - NE Multnomah & 8th (Median Clock) 6:45 - Salmon Street Fountain 7:00 - End at Ladd's Circle (Floyd's Coffee & Wine) This is a casual pace no drop mentality, but we do have a schedule to keep!

Sat, Aug 2, 2025, 5:00 PM
Meet at 5:00 pm; ride at 5:30 pm
End location: Rainbow Road (28th and Ankeny)
Join us for one last ride celebrating Ali Reingold's bachelorette*! What's the theme, you ask? The theme is Ali Reingold! Dress to celebrate all things Ali: think big hair, trucker hats, fanny packs, sequined bras, rompers, big earrings, Chappel Roan, big fun prints, hot dogs, etc. etc. Anything fun and wild that makes you happy! The ride will wind through the city making stops for hot dogs, dancing, ice cream, and perhaps a quick dip in the Willamette for the daring. Ride will start at Laurelhurst park (meet by the restrooms; look for the group!). We'll ride across the Tillicum bridge to the west side waterfront area and wind our way back, ending at the rainbow road (28th and Ankeny). All are welcome! Don't know Ali? Doesn't matter. All you need to know is that she's fabulous, fun, (almost) forty and throwing herself a wedding rager because she doesn't need a partner to have a rad party. Join us! *hint: not an actual bachelorette, please no "traditional" bachelorette items/apparel

DONT LOOK AT SECURITY. A ride of exceptional beauty and impish glee.
TBD, TBD

Leave at 7:45
The link at the bottom takes you too a video Jack Coleman (videographer) made from the last Opera ride. First: Do you need to like Opera? Not at all. If you’re open to music transforming the way a ride feels and how our city looks you’re in for a treat. What can you expect? Well, Opera. A carefully curated playlist. Moments of high drama and thrilling exaltation. Periods of such serenity as voices and music cascade around the city canyons consuming us in beauty and infrequently heard tones. The first time we held this ride (Amy ‘joy’ and Moorland) had no idea how profound a beautiful experience it would be or the depth of that beauty. Also, the playlist is interspersed with dialogue from the movie Casablanca just to give an underlying tonal theme. Route: We’re going to be rolling through city canyons so the acoustics reverberate. There will be a store stop for refreshments and while there the music will change to Rock Operas. The pace will be social and slow. Rebellion and punk shows in many forms, ask around about this insane ride and the previous years mischief! We troll hard!!! CHAOS!!!!!!!!!!!! Safety: As with all our rides, we practice consent and we practice non violence. You’re invited to come as you are and be who you are.

Ride is a loop
You know how whenever you cross one of those cool digital cyclist tracking signs at each entrance to the Tilikum Crossing, the number ticks up by one? That's the dopamine we want, so we're going to cross the bridge over and over again just to Watch Number Go Up. Go until you don't want to anymore. We will use the starting area (the bike parking plaza in front of the NARA NW Riverhouse building) as a hang-out spot for folks to take breaks.

Ride is a loop
A bike ride that pays homage to the 1960s television show by going to the site of a desert island in SE Portland. Yes, there is a 2.5 acre island completely surrounded by water in SE Portland. This island was once private property with housing, but is now public land that is being restored to its natural state. Gilligan’s Island seems especially appropriate for Pedalpalooza, as two dozen of the 98 series episodes featured pedal-powered inventions of one sort or another. This assortment of devices includes such things as a washing machine, a cooling fan, a sewing machine, a diamond-bladed saw, an air pump, a water wheel, and even a pedal-powered dental drill to replace tooth fillings. The picture shows a four-person pedal transmitter powered by Gilligan, Ginger, Mary Ann, and the Skipper to generate enough electricity for the Professor to send a signal into outer space. The desert island we ride to dates back to the 1930s when the WPA (Works Progress Administration) attempted to tame Johnson Creek by channeling the water flow. The project was a failure, making flooding even worse, so the city has been gradually reversing it in recent years. The bridge out to the island will be removed at some point, and the island itself may cease to exist if the channel separating it is removed. The ultimate goal is to reduce flooding and provide the area with a green space that will be a community amenity. Come on the ride dressed as one of the seven stranded castaways if you like. Other options include any of the roughy three dozen visitors to Gilligan’s Island. Somehow these visitors always got off the island without helping the castaways escape. The bike ride to the desert island is four miles, followed by a food cart stop on the route back to Clinton Park. Total distance for the completely-flat loop is eight miles. Including the food cart stop this ride should amount to a Three Hour Tour.

We will ride from Jamison Square in NW on this free, family-friendly, kid-paced bike ride. We’ll start at the Jamison Square fountain at 1pm, and ride around central Portland to 3 other fountains where kids and grown-ups can splash around. August 3rd it often the warmest day of the year, so this will be a great time to beat the heat by celebrating our downtown interactive fountains. Meet at 1:15pm, ride at 1:30pm. The ride is a loop. It's just one mile to the second fountain at Director Park and the next two are each a half mile apart on the waterfront, and then it is 1.5 miles back to the start for a total loop of 3.5 miles, so it is suitable for most young bike riders who can pedal their own bike without training wheels. Bring swimwear, sunscreen and water! We should be back around 4 pm. We will ride at a slow pace for little pedalers and parents on cargo bikes. Kids should wear a helmet, be able to balance and pedal in a straight line, start and stop. Cargo bikes, tandems, trailers and tag-a-longs are great for kids who haven’t learned to pedal. End location: Oregon Convention Center (777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland, OR 97232)
RIDE #6: MLK JR. BLVD Woodlawn City Park to Oregon Convention Center, no pause - 3.4 miles, no loop.

Ride at 7:30
Ride is a loop
