Rolling around noon
We are going to celebrate the sun and its life and season giving cycles by cycling into Fall on the day of the Equinox! More/route details to follow. Expect something like 30+ miles and ~2k elevation +funny biz. I am having a busy month, so this ride won't be extremely ambitious, and there won't be a sunrise start. My plan is to meet at a reasonable daytime hour (optional tea at start) and roll until sunset/equinox O'clock @8:19pm. Likely beer/food stop at or towards the end. Join us in celebrating the slow and stunning death of summer! Come prepared for potential weather. Bring snacks and water but travel light! Make sure you have lights for the evening. Consider giving your bike some attention for the upcoming fallen leaf and wetter season!

Ride is a loop
End location: Ride is always a loop
Our instagram is nakedHeartspdx so you can see how we ride. Weekly themed rides. Different ride leaders each week, but you can expect the ride to be social paced (8ish mph), no-drop, safe and welcoming, store stop with safe clean bathroom access and the ride is always a loop. We practice consent and non-violence specially with car interactions, what one ride does affects how all rides get treated. The Mellow Mondays are a space for (new) ride leaders to try out ideas in a very supported environment. You’ll often see Mondays rides appearing again during the warmer riding season. We follow the shift code of conduct and expect everyone to be respectful of themselves and others around them. This is so we can actually relax and have fun and connect with each other in a softer space. This isn’t a sober ride but we ask for moderation to keep the atmosphere relaxed. We recommend Abraham Fixes bikes in N Williams and NomadCycles (e-bike specialist) for repairs/sales and parts. Our friends over at RideSafePDX host regular ride and we’ recommend those as a pleasant warm group to ride with.

Lady Gertrude (the Naked Hearts sound trailer) says that music helps create shared identity just as much as riding bikes together does, and at Mellow Mondays, we put the 2 together for riders aged 0 to 70+! On this ride we'll connect across generations by sharing something deep or embarrassing or surprising about our own taste in music, the band we were once in, the song someone wrote about us, or? Playlist! 55 songs – 1 for each year and each a new release – spanning 1970-2025. It's not a journey thru the genres of rock. I picked songs that I thought would create a fun vibe and most of 'em mean something to me. I tried to stay away from the Pedalpalooza Top 100, tho there are a few of those included as well. Route! 13ish miles. We'll visit the new David Lynch mural, then head up to Grant Park for some games and funny, music-themed, gettin' to know ya Q&A. Next we'll go east and drop down thru the golf course, then back to Abernethy. Prizes! There will be prizes! ALL prizes are items I've found in free boxes on the side of the road while out riding (this includes records! and creepy rocks with faces on them! (yeah, that one ⬆). Prizes will be awarded to oldest rider, youngest rider, the person wearing the oldest concert t-shirt, and? There are a couple of grand prizes. One artist appears twice on the playlist. Be the first to name this artist and win a CHOCOLATE WOMBAT (wait, did not find this one on the side of the road). Tell me what year has not one, but 2 new releases on the playlist, and win a Fisher Price turntable that plays 45s! (yep, side of the road) Dress! Please wear an old concert t-shirt! Or dress like your favorite recording artist? Or the one you appear as in your dreams? It also happens to be Joan Jett's birthday. She was one of my childhood heroes. Who was your recording artist childhood hero? I would like to know!

Thursday Night Ride
Thu, Sep 25, 2025, 7:00 PM
Meet at 7:00, announcements at 7:30, leave after “Beer Minutes.”
End location: Not a loop, but usually with a fire.
Thursday Night Ride is Portland’s longest-running weekly social ride, riding every Thursday night since 2015! Routes and ride leaders change weekly, but expect an energetic party-paced “rolling dive bar” of a ride for newcomers and regulars alike. Most rides will feature park and store stops, but come prepared to have fun and celebrate cycling together—other wheeled guests should respect the pace and space of cyclists. New leadership, same positive vibes. While you might expect some wheelies and other chaos, riders are expected to follow Shift’s Code of Conduct, and if you’re banned from any Shift rides, TNR isn’t for you. No complaints, just accountability—if your behavior makes others feel uncomfortable or unsafe, please leave the ride before the ride leaves you. Riders should practice consent, accountability, respect, and de-escalation at all times. Stay behind the ride leader and don’t forget to thank a corker! 📍 Salmon Street Springs, every Thursday, rain or shine. 🕖 Meet at 7:00, announcements at 7:30. ✨Be an Empowered Bystander✨ See something off? Step up in a way that feels right for you: 🗣️ Direct: If it's safe, say *That's Not Right* for TNR. 🎭 Distract: Change the vibe and give them an out 🙋🏽 Delegate: Get help from a ride leader or trusted friend ⏳ Delay: Check in with the person afterwards 📝 Document: Write down what happened
⛲️ If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to get involved, come early and ask for the ride leader—we’ll see you at the fountain!

Respect each other! No aggressive, sexist, racist, or any other kind of BS will be tolerated. Violations against the code of conduct will be reported to shift2bikes. If you ride Sur-Ron/powerful electric bikes this is not the ride for you. You can come but you might be heckled. This is a bicycle ride. Not a ride
Variable, announced every Thursday, TBA
Brian McGloin
Sat, Sep 27, 2025, 9:00 AM
Starts at about 9, people roll in and out through around 11
We meet at a different park in Portland every Saturday all year morning at about 9 to talk about home repair, travel plans, obscure board games, insects, etymology and sometimes bikes. Coffee Outside is often a meeting or starting point for adventures, day rides, group food cart rides or other outings. Bring a means to make coffee or some sort of coffee-adjacent beverage, or not. Instant chai? Perfect. A canned coffee beverage from the bodega? Legit. A special small batch blend of beans roasted in your neighborhood roastery that you measure by weight (portable scale, naturally) hand-grind in your titanium grinder before making a slow pour-over using hand-made paper filters and perfect temperature water? Sure, go for it. Baked goods are always appreciated but not at all required. Uniform? Nope. Fancy bike? Nope. Racing or ultra bikepacking chops? Nope. We enthusiastically welcome new faces and have no barrier to entry other than being your authentic self and leaving any bad/aggro attitudes at home. We post the location every Thursday on the PDX Coffee Outside website, which our friend Chris updates, and our Instagram account.

Party Starts at 9, ride at 10am
This will be on high traffic roads. The goal is to bring cyclists together and show our officials across Washington County, including Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, Bethany, and beyond that even though we're in the suburbs, our community is full of cyclists who deserve safe infrastructure too. Our leaders need to work together! We need infrastructure that makes riders and families feel safe—because when people feel safe, more will ride! All people and all wheels are welcome! Always stick to riding in the right lane. ------------- Details to come ------------- This ride will abide by and follow the Shift Code Of Conduct. We are here to celebrate cycling in the West Suburbs, not to antagonize drivers, however we will be corking our ride to ensure the safety of our riders. What is Critical Mass? A mass bike ride and party-protest in cities all over the world, started 30 years ago in SF! Critical Mass bike rides are not just about cycling, it's about reclaiming public space, celebrating community, and making a statement for sustainable urban living. Streets are not just for cars and large group rides help to assert bicyclists' right to ride in the streets and celebrate the bicycle as a form of transportation. There is strength and safety in numbers What is corking? Corking is when you use your bike & body as a wall to ensure the ride can pass through an intersection safely, to keep the group together. Remember, strength and safety in numbers! This ride may not be suitable for small kids on their own bikes as we may be on busy roads with traffic.

End location: Overlook Park (1599 N Fremont St.)
Come celebrate the change of seasons with the flavors of Italia at the Pasta Ride! Meet at Laurelhurst Park at 5pm (Picnic Table F) for the first course: a casual antipasti and social hour. Riders are welcome to bring something light to share for this round - think olives, artichokes, sun dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers, bruschetta, fruit or anything you'd serve before a big Italian dinner. At 6pm sharp, we'll roll out for a leisurely five-ish mile ride ending at beautiful Overlook Park just in time for sunset and the main course: a family style potluck pasta dinner! Bring your favorite Italian dish to share; spaghetti with marinara, pasta primavera, pesto pappardelle, risotto al funghi, lentil bolognese, stuffed manicotti to get your mind and appetite going. The ride leaders are vegan so count on a few plant-based options being available but omnivore dishes also welcome! Late summer harvests of tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant, green beans, and basil go great in pasta. Early fall arrivals of mushrooms, pumpkin, butternut squash, and Tuscan kale also go great in pasta. Pretty much anything goes with pasta. Bring your own plates, bowls, cups, utensils, and a dish to share. Good food, good company, good vibes guaranteed. This is a no drop ride that follows the Shift Code of Contact. Buon appetito!

Ela first time leading and we urge you to ride this ride more than the other country ride it’s rivaling. From Ela, “Y’all ready to turn Portland into a little slice of Nashville? Saddle up (on your bike, that is) and roll out for a modern country-pop ride full of twang, singalongs, and cowboy daydreams. We’ll pedal through the city with the soundtrack of today’s biggest country hits, the kind that make you want to belt out lyrics, tip your hat, and ride off into the sunset. Think group karaoke on wheels, mixed with wide-road vibes (Portland-style). Bring your best country spirit, your loudest voice, and get ready to giddy-up through town!” This is a VS the other country ride. Both rides run parallel and merge and pass each other a few times so riders can shift up the vibes. As with all our rides we practice consent and non-violence. The expectation is we are respectful to each other and other road users. If you’re a banned rider and can’t post rides on the Shift calendar, don’t attend.

So, this is Moorland, I’ve loved Country since been a kid after hearing Hank Williams and Woody Gutherie and have always had a soft spot for the tradition of this music. Similar to the Blues, and also bards of medieval Europe, and the spoken word story tellers of ancient Persia and Mesopotamia……The path of the country singer is one that is deeply rooted in honoring the tradition and history of this form of music. Often the path means the musician walks the Earth for a while picking up songs and melodies and lyrical contexts. It’s absolutely true that Country music has been commercialized, sanitized and co-opted to promote values that are inconsistent with its deep heritage. ‘Outlaw Country’ was artists such as Waylon Jennings’s, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and others rejecting the ‘Nashville’ recoding industry scene and staying true to the heritage and there’s Artists today’s continuing that tradition. For me Country music is and needs to be the music of the people and not for the purpose of drinking the most bland beers of the world while line dancing….. but when your driving home from your second job to your family who you love and your inability to provide more for them breaks your heart ever day….and you watch your friends fall into addiction……your parents and elders struggle with medical needs and alcoholism and blind faith God will provide….Your younger siblings struggle at school because what hope do they have beyond staying out of jail….your gay friends are on the verge of suicide or having to move away…..businesses continually shutting as the Walmart 50 miles away becomes the only place you can buy anything….. And while this ache deepens as the lines on your face become imbedded in a sun squint you sing this music….you hear this music and feel slightly proud you can continue….you hear this music and know the struggle goes beyond yourself and your town and for a short while you know you’re not alone….you’re part of a class of people that’s struggling…… Then sometimes you hear the Blues, Billy Holiday, John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson or the amazing Nina Simone and hear their voices coming from knowing their struggle…. And you know it’s not just you, it’s not just your town, it’s not just poor white folk but it’s everyone beneath an income bracket and that you’ve always been part of this class….that this music always existed and it’s the same song wether you were in England in 1620 or Afghanistan in 200 BC or in Ethiopia or Sudan in 2000BC it’s the music of regular people trying their best to live their lives and love and take care of their families. Having said all that Ela’s music is going to be so much fun and such a great vibe….when we leave the park I’d encourage you all to ride on her ride and drop into modern pop country…. Why? Because as long as music of the people has existed so has music for the people to get down too existed and to kick of the worries and weight of the day and instead have fun, dance, drink, eat and move, As with all our rides we practice consent and non-violence. The expectation is to respect fellow riders and also other road users. If you’re a banned rider and can’t post rides you’re also banned here.

Sun, Sep 28, 2025, 12:00 PM
Meet at noon, ride at 12:15
1:30 PM
End location: Milwaukie Ledding Library, 10660 SE 21st Ave, Milwaukie, OR 97222
Each ride in this series will start at a Multnomah County Library (MCL) branch and end at a different library system, with an opportunity to sign up for a card at both locations. Did you know that if you live in any Portland area county — Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, or Clark — you can get library cards for all of those systems? Each library system has a unique selection of materials and services, so collect 'em all! Libraries also make great pit stops while out riding — water, bathrooms, a quiet spot to stop and rest without having to spend money — so knowing your library branches can be very useful even when farther from home. This month's stop is Milwaukie, which is part of the LINCC system (Libraries in Clackamas County). We'll start at the new-ish MCL Holgate branch, swing by the recently-reopened MCL Woodstock branch (and maybe buzz by the currently-closed MCL Sellwood branch), then head down to Milwaukie to the downtown Milwaukie Ledding Library branch. If you want to sign up for a LINCC library card, bring photo ID and proof of address. For more details and what kind of documents to bring, see https://lincc.ent.sirsi.net. (September is even "Library Card Sign-up Month"! https://www.ala.org/conferencesevents/celebrationweeks/card) Exact route TBD, but will be posted before the ride. Ride is not a loop; return directions gladly given, and the MAX Orange Line is also close by. Also happening in downtown Milwaukie on Sundays: * Sunday Book Sale at the library, 10:00am–2:00pm (leddingfriends.org) * weekly farmers' market, 9:30am–2:00pm (milwaukiefarmersmarket.com) * lots of shops and more — explore the area before heading back! A future ride in this series will head to the Beaverton library (Washington County, WCCLS), date TBD. (If you're banned from Shift, you're banned from this ride.)

Meet at 5:30pm, leave at 5:45pm sharp so we can get to Abernethy by 6:20pm to picnic before sunset
7:30 PM
Ride is a loop
Every September thousands of Vaux’s Swifts roost for the night in the chimneys around Portland. This year a large group of birds has been roosting at Abernethy Elementary’s chimney We’ll ride from the Laurelhurst Park Playground to Abernethy Elementary on neighborhood greenways, then watch the birds till sunset, while having a picnic dinner. Bring your own picnic! The ride is 2 miles one-way and a 4 mile loop total, with the return after sunset which is at 6:55pm We will listen to bird-themed music to get in the spirit before watching the swifts at sunset. Bring a picnic supper with you, there is no store stop. We need to leave at 6:15 pm sharp to get to the end before sunset. We ride slow for little pedalers. Kids should wear a helmet, be able to ride in a straight line, start and stop. Cargo bikes, tandems, trailers and tag-a-longs are great for kids who haven’t learned to pedal or get tired soon. This ride will end well after sunset around 7:45 pm, so front headlights are required for all bikes making the ride back, especially kids’ bikes. We'll ride together as a group, because kids are traffic too!
